First Speeding ticket =(
Well gentlemen, after about two years of driving, I got my first speeding ticket =(
I was going 57 in a 40 mph zone in Coral Gables, FL, stupid me, I know there's always cops there. He said I was nice so he knocked it down to 49 so it's only 120$. Should I pay an attorney to go to court?

I'm with Chubbs. He was already nice enough to knock it down a bit for you. Pushing it even further is well, pushing it. You can try and if he doesn't show up. Yay. If not. Well I guarantee you he'll be a bit less forgiving than he was before.

I would try & fight it, my mistake was I just paid my ticket $140 & didn't realize that in NY there is some stupid drivers assessment that goes with it. Slick NYDMV doesn't tell you how much it is until after you plead guilty, I thought it was something small come to find out it was $300 for a total of $440. So my advice would be delay it by changing the court date & if he doesn't show, GREAT, if he does well see what kind of deal they give you. It can't be worse than what I paid...lol

IDT- I take it you were either driving down Lejuene, Red Road or maybe even Bird because it was a 40 and not a 30/35 like it is everywhere else. They're always hiding around there especially on Coral way. LOL
Take it to court. Believe it or not for some reason the Gables cops barely ever show up for court. I've gotten a few down those streets and always take them to court. 3 out of 5 dismissed is not bad, and the other 2 just did traffic school.

rh71...I feel for you, I would of hired a lawyer but same sort of price, with no guarantee. So I said I'll just pay, wouldn't of mind if it was just a money thing but the points suck. About to take a defensive drivers online course, insurance company said its good for 3 years. Yeah 50mph on the expressway is a joke...hence the word EXPRESS...75 is about average with traffic flow on all the local express & parkways. My friend is a NYPD cop & says highway cops are *******s & there is no talking your way out of it. If it was on a local NYC street he would of helped me out, but highway & state trooper = no good.
