Command update (in the mail)

I received a card in the mail giving me an offer to upgrade my Command system. I don't have the card in front of me but it upgraded the bluetooth to support audio, iPod/iPhone integration and offered traffic for the navigation.

Has anyone done this upgrade and if so what did it cost?

this sounds too good to be true! the iphone and traffic ability would be enough for me to update.

I got a letter in the mail to update my nav for $250 but it didn't mention any of those things. I think it just updates the maps. I am very interested to find out more about this though.

Are you certain this was for COMAND? I received something similar a few months back for a Nav +4 (formerly UMI) upgrade, but this is only for Audio 20 systems.

No I am not, I don't know the difference between Command and UMI. Sorry for the confusion.

What's wrong with iPhone over the current BT HF support? Why would one need an upgrade for that? Of course if it was UMI/Navigation 20/Nav+4, then it would be for iPod/iPhone music.

Currently, you can't transfer your address book from the iphone to the car via bluetooth. Hopefully an upgrade will fix this which would make it easier and more convenient than PC card and other "work arounds".

OK, unless it really is something that needs to be fixed at iPhone side (at least they could do it because the car works with just about any other phone brand), one could hope MB still fixed the issue by Comand SW. In the worst case the Apple implementation needs to be changed (has there been any update recently for the iPhone?).

Have the 3GS with 3.1.2 FW and no need to transfer the phonebook to the car: it's directily accessible from the COMMAND via Bluetooth.

This is all well and good for outgoing calls, but when someone calls you their name won't come up on the COMAND screen unless you have the address book uploaded.

According to the picture, it appears this is for UMI. So UMI gets traffic updates but this can't be done on command???

Has anyone else had success with this on an Audio 50 COMAND system? I recently tried this with a 3.x firmware iPhone 3Gs and wasn't able to pull any contact information.

Sadly, European COMAND systems have realtime RDS traffic over FM. People have noted that the hardware is the same in both the US and Europe, but RDS is disabled in the US. It's really frustrating that the less expensive Nav +4 system supports real time traffic, much better iPod integration, and A2DP audio streaming while COMAND does not.
