I remember i had some heavy rain and was just driving around in a parking lot. My car dipped just enough for the parktronic to suddenly go off for the first time and it scared me to death.

If you end up nose down the Parktronic actually triggers quite easily.

Its not very difficult to get water in the intake....You drive like a bozo through a dip, into an intersectional that has 14" of water (not that deep), the nose goes down as you plow on through....and water is directed over the bumper, covering the intake tubes, and into the revving engine.....done.

If you drove like the other 97% of rational drivers, they would slow down for the dip not directing water over the bumper. It is not just MB's that are having this issue right now.

I don't know about the whole thing with rain. But when the northeastern United States got blasted with snow. I used my remote start to start my car before I cleaned it off... Well... My car wouldn't start as it sucked snow into the air intake... I had to clear out all the snow and hold the key in the start position for 2 minutes until the engine actually started. I hate how our cars have naturally aspirated engines... BRING THE DIRECT INJECTION engines already!!!

Direct injection engines still need air - how is DI going to prevent hydrolock?!?

Since "naturally aspirated" means without forced induction by turbocharger or supercharger and then changing the subject to direction injection, you seem confused about terminology.

No W204 has forced induction yet and direct injection has nothing to do with hydro locking.

Even when the current 6.3 engines are replaced by the new 544hp 5.5 Twin Turbo DI V-8 (all models), the engine can still inhale water unless the intake ductwork is redesigned substantially.

I've driven through some pretty deep water/intense downpours without issues..knock on wood.

DIY water bypass/spilldoor type of vents on floor of air intake horn?

What if an owner in DIY-mode cut some really neat bypass/spilldoor vents in the floor of the early section of the air intakes, before getting closer to the air filter zone? I'm referring to the kind of bypass/spilldoor vents that you could see just after the intakes of certain combat aircraft that have intakes resembling those of the retired Concorde (supersonic) aircraft. Would ingested water (possibly blown-in a bit by intake airflow) drain effectively through these slits/vents I described instead of flowing all the way into the air filter zone and beyond (into the engine)? Just a wacky thought bypassing my sometimes wacky mind.
