aftermarket parking sensor advice please.

Hi All

Looking to fit an aftermarket parking sensor kit on the w204 rear. Can anyone recommend me a kit that i can get in the uk?

also most kits seem to spec that the sensors need to be installed between 400 to 500mm from the ground. Will this be ok on the w204 rear? is ther any obstructions i.e metal beam or anything on the inside of the rear bumper that is likly to cause an issue?

wiring wise it seems pretty straight forward....just got to hook it up to the 12v rev light feed? im sure i saw a thread on here which pointed out which wires these were.

Thanks in advance

I had retrofitted a cobra system by my MB dealership (seems they would not trust MB's quickpark). It comes with speaker(standard) or LED indicators. Sensors are paintable. Works fine for me.

thanks bk.968. I found a cobra parking system on ebay for £47. anychance you can tell me how low down from the bottom of the boot they fitted the sensors please?

reason i ask from the bottom of the boot is as i take it from your sig that you have the amg kit? and your car is also lower than mine, which is an se? therefore it would make sense measuring the distance fom boot as opposed the floor.

also how do you find the sesnors perform?

Sensors do work reliably, but the speaker is way too loud (need to address this, or i'll end up deaf). I can provide sensors' height is some 48,5cm (19,09 inches) above ground level. Weather is too bad to measure this from boot level.
Important: Cobra provide spacers to make sure, that sensors are adjusted horizontally. If needed or not depends on the bumper's shape in the sensor's area. First attempt was without, so every little patch of snow on the ground was identified being a major obstacle. With spacers installed it's fine.

thanks thats very helpful...i take it the spacers ensured that the sensors pointed horizontally as the curvature of the bumper may have pointed them towards to ground otherwise...hence it picking up the snow.

most of the sensors i have come across come with similar (angled) spacers so thansk for the tip.

Are these any plug and play?
or do we have to go through electronics?

Should be no need for programming with all of these retrofitted solutions.

for those of you who have fitted an aftermarket kit did you simply hook up the live feed to the reverse light? if so did you come across any issues...as ive read on one site that due to the bulb failure detection a seperate live bypass feed is required?

do we have bulb failure detection as standard?

well thanks for your help guys i fitted the below kit on the weekend:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=230384815553

and i have to say it was easy! the sensors came in gloss black so matched the color of the car almost perfectly! When fitted it looked so OEM you would not know that they were aftermarket at all, (unless you knew what the oem ones look like that is), needless to say my friends and family were well impressed.

The scariest part was drilling the holes but i looked at some pics from google and tried to match the oem sensor positions as close as i could and all was well. The sensors were supplied with the correct size drill bit so the fit was very snug.

I hooked up the power to the drivers side (passenger in US) reverse light and all worked well. There was even a couple of grommets in the firewall by the spare wheel well that i could route the wiring through easily. and as the speaker is sooo loud, i simply routed it to under the rear shelf.

If anyone else needs some advise, dont hesitate to ask.

Hi Amowolves, sensors need to be installed between 400 to 500mm from the ground. I think it is reasonable. There are maily two ways to install the back up camera of parking sensor, one is no need to drill or another is drill the hols in the rear bumper. I saw a back up camera which can be pasted: you may check here: http://www.espow.com/wholesale-car-r...th-camera.html
Color of the sensors which fitted on the rear bumper should be in cocoincident with the color of the car, some drivers painted himself, but AFAIK, b4 u buying the sensors, you may ask the dealer to equipt the same color of sensors with your car, do not paint by yourself, you 'd better have other professionals painted it. The attatchment in the painted sensor you painted may affect the detection.
