MB Dealer says: Wrap the Window motors when Tinting?

SO, we're getting the windows tinted on the C350 this Saturday. The MB dealer wanted to pickup our car for detailing today, but we told him no joy because of the Tint job. He then asks, "where are you getting it tinted ,,,if you don't mind"? We tell him the name of the joint (which is highly reputable in this city), and he says "make sure that they wrap the window motors when they tint, or it can get REALLY messy inside". So, needless to say, I'm thinking "WTF?". So, the question is: Is this guy full of ****, or is there some kind of door panel jive on this car that needs to be bagged and tagged while tinting the vehicle?

Anyone ever heard of this?

Thanks in advance,

Akhenaten

Maybe he thinks the water/adhesive will slide down upon install and into the door panel and disrupt it. Thats weird he would say that though, tint application isn't exactly a "messy" process.

Thank you Mark.

I'm a new MB owner, but that struck me as odd that we would say that too. Just wanted to make sure though, as these vehicles do require some different maintenance procedures compared to non-luxury class vehicles. I'm no Master Mechanic, but I'm no "just pour gas in the hole" kinda dude
either.

Thanks again!

well, it's typical to spray the inner window with water prior to applying the film, but it's only a light spray. As long as you're not hosing it down, you shouldn't have any issues. The rubber strip at the bottom are usually folded inwards to apply the film as far down as possible, so the strip doesn't catch water drip, but still, he's being overly paranoid or trying to scare you for some reason.

I'm sure dude meant well, but I thought it was pretty nutty sounding. but again, I figured I'd ask some of you guys that are more knowledgeable in the benz maintenance/mods. This is a different beast than my Z...as well as I expected : ) Different class of ride ALL together. I've already learned quite a bit from this forum, and am greatful. Great bunch of folks on here. My smoked markers should be in in the next few days..... Torx bits are already in the garage

The dealer made a very valid point there!

A reputable tint shop will know what to do though. Otherwise their liability insurance will cover the damage.

Thanks ling....I actually googled the hell out of that question before posting. I hit tintdude a few times, and just found a few links about guys saying "the c350 is a easy to tint until the rear window/head rests"

If you do not mind me asking, what is the costs to tint the windows? Are you doing just the rear and rear and front side windows?
Thanks,
Mike....

$125 with lifetime warranty, and that covers the entire car. We aren't going eyebrow on this car however.

When I had my car tinted, they didn't cover up the window motors. The motors still work fine. Over here, everyone tints their cars and I haven't heard of a single C class with any problems from the dealer. The dealer themselves are the ones who install the tint over here.

Literally just pulled up to the house after the tint job. Went with 20%. I'll get pics after I get the detailing finished next Saturday. Don't wanna be posting pics of a dirty child. : )

Thanks again for all of the advice!
