The Turbos Are Coming: 2011 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Gets New 5.5L BiTurbo V8

Looks like Mercedes-Benz has officially begun its drive to further incorporate turbos into its lineup. Obviously Europe has a number of turbocharged Mercedes cars but here in the U.S. we only get them in Diesel form (please correct me if i'm wrong of course).

Autoblog:

InsideLine (New 03/09/10):

Starting off, the 2011 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG gets a new 5.5L BiTurbo V8 producing 536hp and 590 lb-ft of Torque (even more with the Performance Package, 563hp and 664lb-ft of Torque).

Apparently it gets 23.5mpg highway in the S63 AMG and will avoid the gas-guzzler tax.

Since this engine will be placed into the C63 AMG, what do you guys think the power numbers and fuel mileage will be?

I'm excited for the turbo because of the aftermarket options, when the C63 has the 5.5L BiTurbo a tune would change the car, whereas on NA, a tune doesn't do as much (although I love NA for the lack of heatsoak)

Is the C63 also getting the Dual-clutch auto?

Shouldn't they be called like, S55's or C55's then? :3 Then again, they don't call the 63's 62's either.

I assume you mean the Speedshift MCT 7-Speed Transmission like in the new E63 AMG? It already has a Dual-Clutch but not that particular one. I'm pretty sure it probably will get that though to improve on the slight shift-delay that it supposedly has.

Apparently they're sticking with the '63 naming scheme because it sounds good and as a continuing homage to the 300SEL 6.3.

No doubt it sounds good C-Sixty-Three-A-M-G goes well since it rhymes, but i'm not sure whether or not it's just better for them to just go with C AMG or AMG C-Class like BMW does with its M Series.

Yes sir that would be the Trans I'm referring to, right I'm wondering if AMG is gonna put that Trans when they put the turbo engine or if they're gonna put it before, in theory I guess it doesn't make a difference, but nonetheless it seems like a great transmission

I'm hoping/betting that they will because BMW's DCT is supposedly the most responsive out of the Dual-Clutch systems so putting this transmission into all AMG models will put them right up there alongside BMW M models.

I only hope they improve the regular C's 7-Speed Transmission so us regular Mercedes owners have can have some fun too.
