Black vinyl for chrome window trim...pre-cut?

I've seen some guys wrap their chrome window trim in the black or cf vinyl trim...do these strips come pre-cut or do you just buy the material and cut it yourself?

Also has anybody used this material to wrap the door pillars? I'm sick of always having to wipe off fingerprints on the glossy black surface.

Thanks...

I'm sure I can come up with a precut for you if interested. But you might as well just buy a sheet and cut your own strip.

Someone mentioned that the bottom chrome trim slides out . . Is that so & how do I go about pulling them out?

I made cut outs for the bottom piece a few weeks back but the edges are beginning to peel. If there was only a way I could get the vinyl to wrap around the edge.

NJBNZ, I purchased vinyl from stickercity and just cut it myself. Fairly easy task overall.

Some might laugh, but I went and bought myself some black electrical tape... Wrapped the window trim myself. I bought 3m electrical tape if you think about it its basically "precut" as in width =]

HaHa that's one way of doing it. How is it holding up? Any peeling?

So you just laid the vinyl strip on with the chrome strips still on the car? Could that be why the edges are peeling...because it's not wrapped around the trim?

And yes how do you take the trim off? Do you pull them off, slide them off, etc?

Exactly. I haven't done the upper chrome trim but it looks a lot easier being that you can wrap the vinyl around the edge.

Trimbrite Blackout Tape
http://www.amazon.com/BLACK-OUT-TAPE.../dp/B00029XD62

The four chrome pieces on the door are easy to pop off. Just use a small flat head, wrap it in a towel, and push the pieces out. The long stretch from front to back is the hard part. I didn't attempt to pop it off. I just constantly wet it and applied. It took a lot of patience to get it on right, left a few air bubbles but they eventually went away after being in the sun for about a week.

By the way, you're gonna want to buy two of those rolls of black out tape just in case you screw up.

How often do you have to reapply a new piece of tape?

Use trimbrite. It's weather proof. Installed a year ago and haven't had any peeling or anything on it since.

Is it matte/flat black or gloss black?

Did you remove the chrome strips or did you apply the trimbrite while the chrome trim was still on the car?

I was trying to "slide" it out and during the process broke the plastic cap on one side, at which point I realized that "sliding" it out wasn't the proper way of doing it.

Thanks for the clarification and link for the rolls of tape

The way I've seen it done on cars at shops is with the chrome strips attached. They just use a plastic squeegee or vinyl spatula to roll it around the curves and in the gaps.

I did exactly that with the chrome trunk piece but the bottom side pieces have little to no space for the vinyl to wrap around without peeling off after a while. The top chrome pieces on the other hand, look like they're easy to deal with.

Oh okay...I see what your saying...but wouldn't the tape/vinyl fold or crease when rolling it over the edges and around the bends?

door trim

Just did the window/door and license plate trim in black matte. The car is steel gray and it looks much sportier. I had already removed the lower door trim. Love the way the car looks. I had it done at a shop for $80.00 dollars.

Okay so for those of you who wrapped your window trim in black vinyl...how in the world did you do it??? I decided to just do the top piece (that curves over the windows) but couldn't get it on right because of the curve of the trim. No matter what I tried it either wouldn't go on straight or would fold and crease.

Any tips/help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks...
You can probably buy the bottom pieces and just swap them out. Probably just as cheap. My car came that way.
