TAPPING/KNOCKING NOISE..
ive just brought home my c200k (2008) and absolutely loving it!! everything is soooo perfect, sooo mercedes..jus love it!
ONE PROBLEM - i hear a knocking/tapping noise at idle and low rpm.. it seems to be coming from the back, as it is louder in the back than in the front. (its almost non-existant when in the front). During driving it dissapears, wen i stop at lights it starts up agen...
any help will be appreciated

It was my exhaust tip that was slightly knocking on my rear bumper.... I have lett my wife sit in the car, trans in drive and hold the brake. And than i noticed it was the exhaust. Irritating sound in the car....

i took it down to the dealer.. they said it was the insulation around the fuel pump. They jus put more isulation around the pump but didnt replace it. i can still hear it tho...
i think im gonna hav to go down ther agen and demand a brand new pump

Is it affected by how much gas is in the tank? If so it's one of the 2 fuel level senders under the back seat. Nothing to worry about.

is there any rule of thumb for it?
i.e if it is more than half tank then the noise will disappear etc ?
anyway the sound is cyclic, about 250 count per minute. it sounds like a motorboat. i can confidently say it is not exhaust pipe leak. not noticeable from outside. more prominent inside the cabin, near rear pax seat.

250/min is not fuel senders. If it's not exhaust then I would be suspicious that it might be the EECS (Evapourative emissions control system) purge system.

just a quick update, i have sent it to dealer for checkup.. it is confirmed that purge valve in EECS is the culprit.. however, they said it is still within limit and acceptable level, even tho it can clearly be heard inside cabin.. nothing i can do right now even tho the car is still under warranty unless 'check engine' light comes on and error code leads to that particular system.. thanks for all replies..
