No Cruise Control When ESP is OFF?

Just found out that cruise control wont work if I turn off ESP. Is this normal and why would Benz do this?

Under the right circumstances, cruise control will open the throttle without warning (starting to go up a hill). Under low traction conditions, unexpected acceleration can get the driver into a difficult situation. Therefore, no ESP, no cruise control. Why turn ESP off if you're just cruising?

Also, if you decrease the speed at which you have set the cruise control, by 5, 10 or 15 + mph increments, the car will brake automatically to lower the car's speed as quickly as possible...therefore, requiring the use of esp, if under low-traction conditions. (easy way to brake and reduce your speed without having the police officer able to see your brake lights if you're getting nailed by radar or laser...little trick)

Because they don't want you to kill yourself.

I turned it off for no reason, I guess just experimenting.

However in my town, the speed limit is 35 on this one road with tons of cops so I tend to use the cruise control. It is an interesting feature benz implemented here, and it just shows you how much engineering goes into this car!
