Water marks
Any tips on gettin water marks off the paint? Mines is black and on certain angles and lighting i noticed some nasty water marks. I tried using a clay bar and it wouldnt work. I did some searches online and some are recommending dish liquid soap or white vinegar. Any better alternatives?
Thanks

They sound like hard water marks. You would get these in a situation such as parking near a sprinkler system in the morning, then having the hot sun bake your car all day- the deposits in the water etch the clearcoat. As mentioned above, they are removable by polishing and sealing the paint. If they are etched into the clear, vinegar or dish soap won't do anything for you, you have to get below the etching.

True, black does take more effort to keep looking nice. However, it seems that the Mercedes clear coat is much stronger than the dreaded BMW Jet Black. On my JB 135i, if you sneeze near the paint it marrs the clearcoat lol. I had a black MB C300 loaner with 3500 miles on it and the paint still looked good, even after many dealer washes- only thing worse is high school event washes

You can get rid of watermarks by claying the car, then hitting it with some kind of swirl remover or compound either by hand (rigorously) or by machine (preferred). Then you'd want to polish it (again by machine or hand) then wax it. I'm sure others with chime in but this is a pretty simple way to get rid of them.

Best bet is to use rubbing compond & then wax it. I've found Mothers products to be pretty good. I bought a black BMW 335i conv this month & found out how hard it is to keep a black car clean. My advice is never wash your car when the weather's hot. A little delay in drying & you're in for trouble. My white C 300 on the other hand is awesome. No issue with the C

I tried using distilled white vinigar to remove water stains on one of my mirrors this afternoon. It probably did get some of the minor ones but left enough where I'm still looking for something better.
Also, be very careful getting the vinigar on the gaskets. It is a mild acid.
And on a totally unrelated comment. The bottle of vinigar says good for cooking and cleaning around the house. Seems a bit odd that you're eating a cleaning product. Something not right about that. lol

I dress my rubber trim with Chemical Guys Trim Restorer. I apply with a foam paint brush (very small one), smooth out the application, let dwell, and wipe off with a microfiber. This works very well.

vinegar worked really well on my windshield and glass area really well. But some say it will damage the rubber plastic and paint. luckily my car is the diamond white, not noticeable but makes me feel like the car isnt as shiny because theres a layer of calcium deposits lol. and those piano black trims and fenders look like glue droplets everywhere produced by those calcium deposits. Ordered the Meguiars water spot remover and hope is gonna work. ill update later.
