Jack points are identified in your manual. Please read. Otherwise search, since this has been asked and addressed previously.

I was looking at jacks yesterday and noticed that some are designed to go under cars that are low to the ground.

If you haven't bought your jack yet, you might want to go measure the clearance first.

Why don't you read the owner's manual?

Looking under the rocker panels, you will see a pad behind the front wheels and another forward of the rear wheel. You may also lift the rear by jacking under the differential.

Also, you can buy a metal device that fits a hydraulic jack pad and the body jack pad location precisely. About 35 bucks or so. See them at

www.reverselogic.us

Also, when reinstalling your wheels, you must use a torque wrench for the final tightening of the lug bolts. Further, it's a good idea to keep impact wrenches several hundred feet from the car.

What's the importance of getting a torque wrench to tighten the wheels? I just use wrench included with the spare, or a universal T-wrench that I have...

I am surprised no one ever answered this question. I can think of a few good reasons to use a torque wrench.

1) Without the torque wrench the lug bolts may not be secured adequately. At the track inspection for one of the MBCA National Events, I remember checking the lug bolts on an R129 and they were torqued to about 60 pounds, well under the recommended torque.

2) Using a torque wrench ensures that all five bolts are torqued evenly so that the rotor is not warped.

3) A torque wrench prevents overtightening the bolts which could damage the bolts or the hubs.

That's OK for spinning up the bolts (I have a 28V Milwaukee impact wrench) but the final tightening must be done by torque wrench.

This is done on all cars with alloy wheels although I suppose the average Hertz rental's wheels have never been torqued on properly.

I have asked this before without success but maybe someone can help me out this time around. I want to put the car up on four jack stands for a day or two but can't find good placement points for my jack stands. Of course I can't use the jack pad points as the jack is using that area to get the car up.
Is there a designated point somewhere or should I just look for the "hardest" point I can find and hope for the best?

It should be lifted & then supported at the perscribed jacking points but I see what you are after . If you spread the load on a sub frame ect by jacking on a solid piece of say 4"x2" timber it may be OK. Monitor for any distortion very closely when jacking before putting your jack stands in the place.

I bought a couple of trolley jacks & welded blocks of steel on to their cups to fit the MB jacking points. These jacks only cost about $35.

I noticed if you jack the front or rear the car raises pretty evenly. So i put a jack stand on the opposite front/back same side. Than lower Jack. Car should stay even. After, i replace the same corner where i removed the jack with a jack stand. Same thing for the other side. But i leave the jack itself on one corner. and put a jack stand somewhere else. to support the jack. Hope it helped. Always use the blocks to lift car. never from the body.
