I'm not really an expert. But from what I've gathered, at least on the U.S non-boosted, Gas motors, they're pretty much maxed from the factory. Any mods will cost $$$$$$$$ with very minimal return. Usually computer Chips/programming/remapping seem to be the best HP options, but to me, even their gains are way too minimal to validate the high cost. Not to mention potential Reliability/Warranty/etc. problems you might have.

C200 CGi
^^^ true2 but the thing that pi***d me off is because we test the c200 CGi (turbocharged) yesterday for a short drag race against civic FD2 (thai built) and Accord Euro CU2 (Acura TSX) and the result is the C-Class comes last twice (we change the driver three times to make it fair for the car).

eventhough the C-Class is 24kw over the Civic, it can only beat the civic once. So yeah...

I really doubt the K&N will have much effect on a C class since it has a very good air intake system with basically ram air. I've used them in various cars and the only car that I noticed a significant difference was my 06 Civic Si. It went from 29 mpg to 31 mpg on long highway commutes. My experience is that they tend to work better with small 4-cyl. engines and have little or no effect on larger motors.

I had my MAF replaced because of K&N. Does not worth it at all. I did not notice much improvement, but MAF went bad on my BMW 323. I think it was too oily. I think if those filters were good OEM would use it. They do not, so there are some drawbacks probably. I would never use again, cost me $450 in MAF replacement + that junk filter itself.

Any "gain's" are usually negligible, if they even exist.

M-B's stock filters are known to be about as good as it gets for the particular motors. I'd use that money on something else.

BTW, tire PSI, clean injectors, clean/serviced air filter, driving style, etc. will affect MPG's a lot more usually.

When I did my oil change I was horrified and how cheap the oil filter they used was... I replaced it with a MANN filter, and you could tell it was better reinforced, and used a lot more surface area. That said, the air filters were also replaced on my car by Carlsson because they do increase the horespower, and if you maintain them properly, they shouldn't cause any problems. I don't know about K&N in particular.. maybe there's just something about their filter material?

MANN + Hummel is the OE filter.
