Stick with a reputable tuner like "Brabus" mentioned and there is no reason not to get the hp increases from a diesel.

A diesel motor has a lot of potential as they run rich from the factory and can be leaned out, boost can be increased from the turbos, and diesels generally are built stronger because of the high compression so they can handle the power.

ECU tune for diesel cars

My 170 bhp C220 CDi was remapped by AMD tuning to around 212 bhp and 350 ish ft/lbs torque. They had to actually change the standard map in the ECU. This was done about 5-6 years ago and maybe its possible to do it differently now. But I was very impressed with the company, and received a before and after dyno report when I picked the car later the same day. Been completely reliable ever since and the cost was 50% of Brabus.

PM me if you need more details.
