Because....Mercedes Benz isn't about Value...If you wanted value, you can always buy a Honda. lol MB charges you because they can and they know you'll pay for it. lol

It's about simple utility and usefulness. Also, if MB wanted to keep their resale value up a bit, they would increase the utility of their cars in simple cost effective ways...such as....wait for it....standard fold down seats. People on a used car lot may want an MB but need it for more than schlepping themselves back and forth from A to B. Being more "useful" would keep the values up and make their used cars more "desirable".
The salesperson tried to sell me on the fact that the lack of folding-seats is a security feature, so valets can't get into your cabin from the trunk ...

That makes no sense whatsoever. Your fold down rear seats can only be unlatched from the trunk. Not from inside the cabin. If you lock the trunk, then you should be fine.
This is not A luxury option, this is a utility and should be included standard!
MB might as well make rear windows opening an option! Oh golly.

This seems to be an important feature for you. Just curious, why did you buy the car knowing it did not have fold down seats?
I spent a few minister figuring out how to open and google it until I Found this thread.

FWIW, my 2002 Acura TL-S does NOT have folding rear seats, however my 2012 MB C350 does (which came with it standard).
