Exclamation ummm, RECALL?

I just heard on the news of a recall for 2010 C-Class and 2010-11 E-Class. Steering issues, anybody have the scoop?

Here's another one - http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2010/10/10...roblem/?hpt=T2

Mercedes recalls 85,000 cars over steering problem
Luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz is recalling about 85,000 vehicles from certain 2010 and 2011 models due to potential steering problems.
The recall affects 2010 C-Class cars as well as the 2010 and 2011 E-Class coupe and cabriolet models.
Steering systems in the cars "may fail due to the loss of power steering fluid," the automaker said in a statement.
In such instances, the driver could lose control of the vehicle, according to the automaker.
Those affected can take the cars to a Mercedes dealership for a free checkup. The recall starts later in October.

Is this specific for 2010 and 2011 models only? So if I have a 2007 W204, it's not affected? Anyone got any specific details on what the recall fix is? Sounds like a weak hose clamp?

Wondering why it's only the latest two model years? Wouldn't all W204s have the same power steering components??? Did they change the steering since the first run of our cars in 2008?

Reports are that this defect is related to a hose attachment, therefore, there could be a variety of reasons. Change in supplier process, change in supplier material, inadequate training for new employee at supplier, etc. They appear to have defined the suspect population as starting with 2010 model year, but it is not unknown for populations to grow with additional data. If someone with other than a 2010-2011 finds their power steering fluid is low, they should have the car repaired (of course!) but, also inspected to determine if the leak is similar to the recall issue.

this would probably explain why they offered 10k of sticker price for the '10 models but not the '09 models. When I asked my dealer, he said they are trying to get rid of the 2010 c63's but when I asked how come not the '09, he didn't answer. I knew there had to be some kid of catch to this

I know it doesn't apply to per-2010 models. But does it apply to 2011 C-class models. It doesn't say in the report, but it includes 2011 E-Class ones....

So aside from us taking the initiative to contact them will they send out notifications as well to the owners? Ironically I just took my car to the dealer for Service A yesterday and if it's not necessary I'd rather not take it all the way back to the dealer, it's a bit of a drive

Owners of recalled cars are ALWAYS notified by mail of recalls. Recalls, NOT service bulletins..

My God, the panic here over this is amazing.

OK, so I'm JUST GUESSING here, but it sounds like a couple of torque wrenches were mis-set. I'll go get mine checked this week...

BUT THIS is the REAL reason we are all on here, to compare results, issues, questions, concerns, etc...

Exactly - Check for leaks & tighten clamp at dealer.

Just double checked both with the dealer where I purchased my C300 and MB Customer care and the recall is by VIN and not a general recall for all 2010/2011 models. Luckily my VIN was spared.. I'm sure MB will reach out to those affected but it doesn't hurt to make the first step.
