I have friends with crap cars and no money that are bigger d-bags and way less financially responsible than me so I think the theory that enabling your kids sets them up for failure is BS.
Just throwing that out there for discussion.

This is true, it depends on the maturity of the kid.
I got my W204 when I was in high school at the age of 17
I did start up being a little responsible but then this car has taught me many lessons which made me appreciate life as well.
So this car did a great job for me.
But every case is different.

Keep in mind there is a significant sample bias in this, and all other surveys on this forum. This sample is constituted of people, who 1) claim to own a C Class, and 2) participate in an enthusiast forum. The second characteristic makes this sample NOT representative of C Class buyers in general. One can speculate on the differences....younger buyers are over-represented among enthusiasts, young buyers are over-represented among forum participants, etc. The bottom line is that this age distribution is expected to be shifted to a younger median than the actual C Class population. So, this exercise is for two purposes.....1) to see how our forum participants distribute for age, and 2) fun.

and not to mention the flawed age splits.. for instance I'm 25, and fall in two demographics in this survey.
And to the gold platter comments, i'm not one to talk. I was always seen as spoiled amongst my friends in high school because I had a nice car (wasn't purchased for me, but was just able to drive my parents extra car as my own) I do think that having things given to you can teach you to appreciate nicer things and learn some financial responsibility. At 25, I'm out of college (graduated), have a good job, pay for all of my things, spotless credit, and I think a lot of it is due to having an easier upbringing. My friend, whose parents are much more wealthy than mine got the shaft in high school when it came to vehicles, allowances, help with money, etc.. he didn't go to college, has horrible credit, has an OK job, but simply struggles much more..
At the highschool age when you're 'rich', all comes down to whether you're humble or if you're a Dbag..

Well I got the C class when I was 21. Id like to think Im a very mature young adult, who appreciates the nicer things in life. Honestly, I dont see this as being spoiled. TO ME, the definition of spoiled is not the nice things you have in relation to age, its the attitude that one carries him or herself. I too look down on those whiny spoiled brats who think they are entitled to nice things, like those seen on the MTV show Sweet Sixteen (if they still show that anymore).
However, I dont see anything wrong with driving a Mercedes as long as your attitude stays real and you respect what is given to you.
Money is all relative. I wouldnt expect Bill Gate's children to be driving around in Toyota Yarises (nothing against the car). So you cant punish the children if the family has more money.
That and also there is the safety involved and solid feeling with driving a Mercedes.
Im so glad we can talk about this subject without people crying foul and lets keep it that way. This is just MHO
