Equalizer in Engineering mode for 2011
I was trying to find the equalizer that is mentioned in engineering mode but don't see it as an option. Can anyone tell me where it is or is it possible that they took it out of the 2011 engineering mode?
Just checked myself and the only thing I could find is the 7.8 and 7.9 menu in the Engineering settings menu (hangup + 1 + #, then hangup + 4 + #). These are in the second page of the 7 menu from the secondary engineering settings menu. You can scroll up and down in the menus using 2 for up and 8 for down.
The only options I had was to reset the EQ and audio profile... I got scared and didn't do a thing.
I myself prefer a bright sound and the sound system is a little to mid-heavy for my tastes. I'm planning on the Infiniti speaker upgrade, but I'd probably be happy if I could just turn down the midrange a bit. Even with the treble setting at max my system still sounds like mud.
I'm keeping an eye on your post. I have yet to replace my speakers.

Also is the EQ different per input device, like CD/Radio/Aux each have their own EQ or is it a global sort of change?

Hey I did the total opposite of that. I did hit reset. But nothing happend. You lose the text of what was originally there, but as far as sound, nothing changed. Everything works fine. I do miss the text there though...
Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.
As for argentino's comment about the need for an EQ: Analog equalizers only generate phase shift and distortion, haven't used one in over 40 years and most people only know how to make them "SMILE". Actually no system I have owned for the last 30 years even HAS any kind of tone control - straight from the turntable/preamp or CD into the power amp. If the sound system is high quality, the wave-launch and EQ of the speakers should be perfect to begin with, just like your music source. Why mess it up?
As far as the parametric EQ in the Audio20 headunit, it is all digital (quite a caveat!!!) and as far as adjusting it for the Infinity 60.9's I eliminated the 2300 Hz bump that took care of the suck-out at the woofer-tweeter xover point of the OEM speakers. Flat as a pancake. I dont know what people expect the parametric equalizer to do for them. The tone controls are hinged and will boost or drop the lowest and highest frequencies around the typical 1000 Hz centerpoint. This should be sufficient to "salt" the sound to their taste.
One would need a 1/3 octave analyzer to go poking around and see what needs to be tuned by the parametric EQ. Someone posted somewhere about an app for the iPod, I would prefer a hand-held mike and software for a laptop.
Anyway the point is that ANY audio system, for the home, car or stadium, should first be flat and distortion free, and then use external aids (DSP, parametric EQ) to correct tiny details, not to make huge adjustments.
