Tinting rear window- pixels question
I tried a search but no luck. I had my windows tinted today (35%, legal limit in MA) and when I got it back the edge looks uneven on the pixels in the rear window. They had told me to allow 2 weeks for everything to cure but I'm not sure this will fix itself- it looks like the tint isn't properly sticking to the pixels. Has anyone else had this issue?

If it looks like water blisters around the pixels, yes, they should go away in about 3-5 days of sunlight.
Don't try a hair dryer or anything, it'll naturally go away.

it basically looks like 3 or 4 inches along the very edge stick perfect, then a couple of inches didn't stick, then another couple stick ok, etc. I'm hoping it goes away, thanks for the info..
I did some searching around the internet and it looks like after the film dries for a week or so you can hit it with a credit card covered with a paper towel and that will help it a lot. We'll see....
I'm surprised more people on here haven't run into it, or at least I can't find the threads.

hey this is a semi-related question
is there anyway to purposely make bubbles in the tint without making it obvious you did it yourself?
I'm not happy with the tint my wife got, it's just way to light. There's a life-time guarantee for my tint if it ever bubbles, scratches, etc.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm just surprised that more people haven't had the same issue.

I tried to press it down a bit tonight without any luck. I'm hoping that it gets better as it "cures" but I'm not holding my breath. If it doesn't look better, the tinter will have to redo it or I dispute the charge, easy as that.

So I trusted them. Sure enough, a few sunny days and it went away completely. Now my windows are all perfect.
The one thing he mentioned was not to try and fix it yourself. It must be air in the solution or something they use.
hope this helps some

I think everyone has the issue, as I mentioned above, the first day I got into my car I had what you're explaining. My whole driver side window looked like a bunch of air bubbles across the whole thing. I kept my cool and just hoped for the best. 24hrs went by, nearly as bad as the day before, I went right to the shop. They looked at it and said,"Yep- normal." I was like

Can you look at your back window along the very edge and see if the tint looks perfectly stuck to the dots?

I know mine is now.
I definitely know what you're speaking of because I had my eyebrow done on my windshield and it was done around the pixels there too and it looks great now.
I hope it works out for you, if not, hopefully the company is reputable enough that they'll just replace it too.

I called them today- they said that "all of the Mercedes that they do the tint doesn't stick well to the pixels". They recommended that I wait 2 weeks and then try to press it down with my finger or a towel wrapped credit card. UGH.

Very common problem known as the matrix issue with tint. Usually after it cures in the sun, it'll get better, however, I've had better end results from forcing matrix bubbles/water out before it fully cures. MBs can get pretty bad matrix results, but BMWs and P cars are worse from my experience.

Man up and just pay to have it redone rather than trying to screw the tint shop. Its not their fault you or your wife picked out the wrong tint.

I'm going to have to give a big +1 to this. Was no fault of the installer that you picked that shade. It's tough enough to run a small business these days in this economy to have people try to screw them this way. Had it happen to me already with shady people so your tint guy gets a bit of empathy from me on this.
