I got my new system in the C300.

Hey guys I picked up my car from the Audio Shop today.
just a quick recap on the equipment, I ended up replacing the OEM speakers after all.

JL Audio CL441DSP CleanSweep OEM Audio Interface

Infinity Kappa 60.9cs 6-3/4" 2-way Component System
Infinity Reference 6032si 6.5" 2-way Speakers Shallow
JL Audio Slash 300/4v2 4 Channel Amplifier Amp

Two JL Audio 13TW5-3 13.5" Sub 2000W Thin-Line Car Subs
Two JL Audio SGRU-13 13.5" Woofer Grilles
JL Audio Slash 1000/1v2 Mono Amp

The JL AUDIO CL-SSI CLEANSWEEP SIGNAL SUMMING INTERFACE (Was not needed after all so I need to return it)

Not to exaggerate but the damn subs sound so damn loud and crisp. It actually gave me a headache. I had the knobs both both the mono amp and the cleanSweeper installed under nit the steering wheel. I'll show you guys in the morning.

UPDATE I added more pictures to the mobileme link.

there were 3 issues I did not like which i will try and get resolved whenever I have time.

So this is pretty much what i told the install manager in an e-mail i sent to him a few minutes ago.

1. I noticed that I cant no longer play any sound unless i have the key in the ignition and its turned half way.

2. We talked about being able to have access to the spare tire and you said you were going to modify the cover so it could be open once the sub box was in place. I can't open it without breaking the cover.

3. This is my most important issue. so I noticed that I can turn the bass down but i can not turn it down completely. Even if i turn the knob all the way down and the bass all the way down on the stereo options, I still have a strong bass in the car. This is an issue when I have my son in the car. This was the reason I had told you i wanted the second knob for the mono amp. I don't know if you recall I told you that in my other car I have a knob for the subs and this way i can take the bass all the way down to none so when I have my son in the car.

I also noticed that the calibration cd that came with the CL441DSP CleanSweeper is unopened. This leads me to believe somebody forgot to run the calibration. I am not an expert but my assumption would be that maybe this is the reason I cannot completely turn the bass all the way down utilizing the knob.

Now to the positive side. I really do like the way the vehicle sounds from all the equipment that you suggested for my car. I also like the clean looking installation in the trunk. I am very happy with the amount of space I have in the car. Also the amount of bass in the car its out of this world.

My last note is, I would like to know the location where the cleanSweeper was installed.

I look forward from hearing from you as soon as possible.

Congratulations on your installation. What things do you like about this system? What is your opinion about the change to the Infinity Kappas? A suggestion would be to turn down the volume of the bass amp, and use the tone control to boost it when you desired.

I haven't been able to test out the full potential of my door speakers because there is just so much bass as the volume increases. I'm gonn have to turn down the gain in the mono amp so I don't have this ridiculous loud bass in the car.

What I love my about my new system is the depth of the subwoofer box. It's probably almost 3/4 smaller than the box I have on the jetta with two 12 subs.
It's not a fancy box made out of fiberglass cause I was just already my budget, but I like it.

Bill to be honest. I actually think the cardboard looking OEM speakers had deeper bass that all the speakers in the car. I dont know if this is the way they did the setup cause because of the subs or what not.

Your no.1 issue is most likely caused by the fact they are turning on your amps with an accessory wire from the rear SAM (fusebox) module.

No.3 we spoke about in another thread, your 1000W amp is out of proportion with your 75w per channel for the main speakers, hopefully they can turn the gains down low enough to fix this.

The Infinity's may sound like they have less bass however I can assure you this is not the case, they are simply very "bright" speakers and that is what you are hearing.

They need to calibrate your system, this is one of the most important steps.

Nice set up!

Looks pretty good. hopefully they calibrate the car and everything has more congruency to it throughout the listening spectrum.
Now I'm excited to continue with my project lol

good work!

Norm01 i do remember you telling me about this.
well when I take the car back in I will tell them to lower the gain down a whole lot. with issue 1 where would be the place to get the power to turn on the amps?

Norm01 I got a response from the guy that oversees the installations. This is his response

I got your message and all your issues can be corrected with the exception of the bass controller. I can make the control do a bit more probably but the 1000/1 knob controls bass boost not the actual gain. That's a feature of the amp that I have no control over. But as I said, I most likely can make the control more drastic. Although doing so will effect the overall sound to some degree. The cleansweep disc is most likely unopened because Jeff ( tech) has his own disc and if it wasn't calibrated it would not work properly. I will have a one of my guys give you a call tomorrow to set up a time to address your concerns. This should be a brief appointment because your issues are easy to fix.

Congratulations on taking the bite. Personally I think the subs are a bit overkill with your amp, which I suspected from the beginning, and your review confirms this. I hope they can resolve your issue with the bass being too loud even though it is turned all the way down. I feel sorry for you, but at the same time, you greatly contributed to the community by biting the bullet for us all.

I think that am I just simply going to replace the stock speakers with infinity kappa and then place as large a sub as I can fit into the recessed area on the left of the trunk (probably only a 8" or slim/shallow 10". As I certainly don't want to lose valuable trunk space.

Now that you have a chance to reflect on it all, is there anything you would have changed/ done differently had you the opportunity again?

Well looking back. The only thing I woulda done different would have been to get a jl 500/1 instead of the 1000/1. Hopefully this can be corrected by lowering the gain.

@dgghostkilla: A lot of what people perceive as "bass" is just distortion, typically even-order harmonic distortion people mistake for bass. Also, quality speakers need about 40 hours of breaking in before they really start to perform. The Kappas will provide excellently balanced bass in a week or so, and distortion free. Make sure the front of the speakers are properly sealed against the door panel and grill (the purpose of the huge foam surround on the OEM speakers), as well as the rear seal. The parametric equalizer in the Audio 20 has a factory programmed peak at 600 Hz, and a dip at 2,300 Hz (to keep the OEM tweeters from "barking" at the lower end of their frequency range). Resetting the PEQ to a Q=1 at 600 Hz, and an increase to 0 dB at 2.300 Hz, there is nothing this simple system lacks (with the Audio 20) except for a little more bass below 90 Hz, the opposite problem you are experiencing with your new system!
