Safest Cars for 2011

Forbes magazine just went through the relevant data and pulled out just the cars from SUVs, crossovers, etc., and came up with the top 10. Both C and E Class are among them. Here's the link to the slideshow, starting with C, but you can scroll previous or next of the top 10.

Thanks for the info sportstick, I am a bit confused by this line in the story, "It's no surprise then that big sedans like the Buick LaCrosse, Lincoln MKS and Mercedes C Class dominate our list."

Since when has the c-class been regarded as a "big sedan". I can only guess that they meant bigger than roadsters? Also, it seems that many of the american car companies are dominating the list with buick lacrosse, cts, mustang, cruze, and possibly another I can't recall at the moment. It's reassuring to see american car companies excelling in more than just appearance.

I agree with you and noted the same odd reference. Although the reporter was capable of describing the data analysis, I can only guess they were not closely familiar with cars or MB's alpha nomenclature, and did not know the difference. The photo did not provide any helpful size reference. I'm sure the writer would be quite surprised to know the C is closer in size to the Cruze than the LaCrosse!

I too am confused by
" The Ford Mustang GT..., among other small "

I'm sorry but the Mustang GT is not that small of a car 3600 LB vs Mini 2600 lb

I am assuming that this is based on interior volume, but cannot be positive.

Cadillac DTS OAL=207.6"
Ford Taurus OAL=202.9"
Ford Mustang OAL=188.1"

That's how they think...smaller than a typical full size/luxury car.

I thought this was interesting as well :

The Movers and Losers list reports the average number of days it takes to sell models from the day they arrive on the lot until the final paperwork is signed by a buyer. This is not a days-of-inventory list like you may find on other sites. We're now focusing on only 2011 model years.

Movers December 2010

2011 Ford F-150 crew cab: 8 days
2011 Hyundai Elantra: 9 days
2011 BMW 535 xDrive: 11 days
2011 Kia Optima: 11 days
2011 Lexus LS 460: 11 days
2011 Audi Q5: 13 days
2011 Subaru Forester: 13 days
2011 Audi Q7: 13 days
2011 Nissan Juke: 14 days
2011 Honda Odyssey: 15 days
2011 BMW X5: 16 days
2011 Chevy Equinox: 16 days
2011 Hyundai Santa Fe: 16 days
2011 Audi A5: 17 days
2011 GMC Terrain: 17 days
2011 Infiniti QX56: 17 days
2011 BMW 328i xDrive sedan: 18 days
2011 Honda Element: 18 days
2011 Lincoln MKX: 18 days
2011 Mercedes-Benz C300: 18 days
2011 VW Touareg: 18 days

Since most 2010 new cars on lots are slow-moving leftovers with 2011 versions available, we’re going to focus strictly on 2011 model year vehicles. That brings the average number of days it takes for a car to arrive at a dealer until leaving in the hands of a new owner down to 35. If you included 2010 models, that figure would balloon to 92 days.
