W204 wins latest SA JD powers survey.
The W204 has just won the latest SA JD Powers customer survey for the least faults in it's category. Compact Execs.
Great after MB South Africa won JD Powers’ Gold Plant Quality Award 2 years straight.

However - this is indeed a small market compared with US.
Merc W204 sales average:
at launch in 2007 Average = 4000 units a month
Jan 2010 = 3500 units sold.
Jan 2011 = 2700 units sold.
Our new credit act & world economic meltdown have adversely effected vehicle sales here quite badly. Vehicle sales were approaching 1 million per annum prior to the crunch.
Benz is number 3 best seller on this market after VW/Audi & Toyota. BMW is number 5.

I think sales are adequate to be statistically good in a survey of this nature.

Can't tell what MB sales target is, but the money they'll spend in advertising during the Super Bowl, it's evident they have an aggressive marketing plan.
Adding F1 to this, I'd would not expect too much mercy from MB if I were with the competition.
Go Mercedes, go!!!

US sales
RLE - statistical data is limited to me without an expensive subscription.

OK - so our 48,000 units in 2007/annualised is not too bad.
Our exports have generally been similar to local consumption - with most to US - that gives me some idea of topup from Germany.
Benz has damn good market share in SA for what it is. W204 is of course the bread & butter. C180K right up to AMG, all the diesels, wagons & coupe. We import the wagons & coupe these days for complexity management reasons at the plant. At one time we did everything including the S Class here which made no sense - 7 cars a week or something crazy like that.
