Finally Tinted the Tail Lights..

Decided to save a bit of money and go out and buy VHT Niteshades and tint my tail lights myself. Check out the pic and tell me what you think.. If anyone wants I can put up a pic with the brake light on but 3 coats of Niteshades and it still shines right through

A little too dark for my taste, I would not last a day with out getting a ticket here in SoCal, specially with our hungry cops.

By definition, the light cannot be as bright, therefore, sorry, but thumbs down from me and I hope never to be driving behind you at night, especially in bad weather visibility.

I'm glad you are thinking about the concern, but those photos don't make the case. The issue is not having the light disappear completely...it's the amount of loss. You would need before/after comparison of light meter readings, which I think will show the reduction in light output. If you found a tint where the difference is zero, then I retract all my concerns!

My tails are dark like that too and I'm getting around to replacing them.

Above and beyond all of the accurate concerns about the reduction of light/safety discussion...The work itself looks shotty at best - Sorry man, but you can see red that was not even covered, the finish looks bad, there was obviously no clearcoat applied...Total fail in my book.

Is there a simple way to reverse the niteshades process?

Spraying behind red plastic on the inside would not achieve that color.

You should clear coat it, VHT coating sucks as far as the shine goes compared to OEM plastic.

too dark for my taste. that'd be just asking for cops to pull you over here in SoCal. Cop pulled over a white C300 right in front of my office for tinted taillights, and everybody in the office thought it was me, so they all asked me why i got pulled over. lol

If you spray it again with vht and wipe it down with a cloth, the old mixes with the new and can be removed.

PS it's shoddy, not shotty.

I prefer the red over black. Maybe one coat would've looked better. But as long as you're happy with it, more power to you.

Forgive me, Master, but I think that is the wrong approach. Unlike most mods which can simply please the owner and not risk hurting anyone else, tinting brake lights requires a different standard. As long as it doesn't increase the risk of someone else not seeing your car as easily and quickly as with a normal taillight, then "more power to you". I suspect this one fails.
