doh broke seat belt buckle please help

Hi guys,

The mrs has managed to break the seat belt buckle and now the seat belt doesnt clip in. I have sourced a replacement from merc dealer but was wondering if anyone knew how to go about removing the front seat to do so?

any ideas please?

Normally seat belt problem are covered under lifetime warrenty since it is safety item. Dealer should fix it under warrenty.

Thanks for that. I rang merc uk and they did say i could ask my local dealer to put a good will application in for the repair (as the car is out of warrantee).

However, it turns out it wasnt covered. ohwel. thanks for the info though i didnt even know that a goodwill application procedure existed! The dealer did not even inform me...they just went on to quote me £140 for the repair.

anyhow i have sourced the part, and it doesnt look to difficult to fit...just one bolt. But i will have to remove the seat.

But.....The seat bolts are star shaped....does anyone know what tool i'll need for removing them?

Bolts with stars on the end are generally Torx bits (which are very common on this car). Try a T15 or T20 torx bit.

thanks it is indeed a torx but not the usual t15 t20....its a female or inverse torx bolt..i think they have an 'e' designation.

ok ive replaced the broken seat buckle...but now i have an airbag malfunction as i had to unplug the seat module.

can i reset this myself or will it require a trip to the dealership and wallet being raped.

car is a c200k. i dont have the ok and call buttons on the steering wheel so cant do that trick.

Let it go for a day or two. These warnings sometime resolve themselves after a few starts since the system goes through a self check on every start.

As you now know, the seat belt buckles are part of the SRS.

Just curious, how did the Mrs. end up breaking a seat belt latch??? Just thinking I may want to know to avoid the same fate.

It's at the right rear of the engine compartment, looking forward. Under the heater air intake water trap.

If it's a diesel, it's in the trunk.

thanks RLE...if it doesnt clear in a few days i'll try disconnecting the battery...unless that will throw up other problems?

c300sport she was cleaning the car and got a bit of cotton string stuck in the buckle. but rather than pressing the button to release the string she pulled it and off came a bit of plastic from inside the buckle that pushes the retaining pin out of the way as you push the seat belt in.
