Power Folding Mirror - Opening too far
Hi Everyone:
I have a 2008 C350 with the Power Mirrors, the other day, when I unlocked the car, the mirror on the driver's side opened, and continued to open, past the auto stop point. It was almost flush, against the body, open all the way. I have serched the forums, but did not see anything. Has anyone experienced this or have any idea on a possible cause (fix)? I am wondering if all the salt and debris from the winter has caused a switch to stick...
Thanks.

Yes, plus both mirrors making all kinds of noises when folding for the last 3 years.
It is another design defect: the folding stop is affected by frozen slush and water etc so keeps on going.
LOL - how hard is it to make a folding mirror that works in winter ! Guess that's why they dropped the power folding mirrors - good ones costs too much.
Probably will dump the C pretty soon since it has been in for so many repairs / warranty - no other car I've had needed even a 1/4 of the warranty repairs LOL. Very Bad Quality.

Can't find a car that I want - they are all so similar / bland. Gonna try a few different cars off leasebusters / ones with 6 mths +/- remaining.

The dealer replaced my mirror motor and it hasn't happened ever since!

One of the things I know in solving that is the dealer placed a limiter on the mirror. If I were you once it gets fixed turn-off the feature and use it only when really needed.

I just experienced the same problem with my driver's mirror opening too far. The local MB dealer refused to tell me what could have caused it but the parts department staff suggested it could be the motor or the frame within the mirror.
After hearing how much a new motor or frame cost from the dealer, I searched online and found a complete used mirror for CAN $300 and was prepared to replace my mirror. Before picking up the used mirror, I decided to open up the mirror on the car. The motor in the mirror which moves the glass up/down and left/right still worked perfectly and so did the retract and extend button on the door panel. I couldn't see or find a motor that could open and fold the whole mirror.
About the same time, my battery died from opening and closing the window and testing the mirror without running the engine. I reassembled my mirror, jump started the engine and the mirror worked perfectly. The battery was tested and found to defective so it was replaced given it was the original battery and had served me faithfully for some 9 years and 3 months.
I am happy to say that everything now works as it should and the mirror opens and folds perfectly. I didn't have to change anything.
Was a dying/dead battery the reason for the mirror opening too far? I am convinced it was, given I changed nothing. I hope this proves helpful to anyone having the same mirror problems.

Nobody found a solution to this?
My mirror was stuck after being frozen, no it goes out beyond posistion, there must me a limiter, or a gear that is out of position.
where is the motor for the folding mec located?

There's no limiter, I've looked into them, I managed to make them quiet with silicon grease on the motor and some adhesive foam where the plastics meet but every few months one mirror will go out of sync and open too far, you just push it back in and open/close them a few times and it will relearn itself, very strange design but over the years I learned to live with it and it doesn't happen that often. Its not a weather thing because this happens both in summer and winter. So unless its underwarranty I wouldn't replace your mirrors if the motor still works, it just needs a re sync.

Thanks, i solved it, and can confirm its self pos. Tried a dozen times with no luck, then i turned off the auto feature, and manually folded them in with the button, and out again, then suddenly it stopped where it should, then turned auto back on again, no issues. Didnt make any sense, maybe a coinsidence?

Mine finally got to a point where it would not reset. I think the piece the clicks it into the stopping place broke. I just turned off the automatic fold option and leave them open. Not worth fixing for a 11 year old car with 110k miles on the clock.
