Red face AMG Door Pins

Hi everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me here. I just purchased a 2009 c350 sport and I want to change out the door pins that came with the car. I think the original black pins are pretty ugly. I went ahead and bought the AMG chrome door pins that are compatible with my car, to replace the original ones that came with the car. Well my problems is that I'm really not sure how to install them, I thought the old pins just screwed off i think that may not be the case. Has anyone out there had any experience in changing them out?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

thank you!

Just unscrew the two stock front pins and the rears just pull it out.

to put the new AMG pins...here yah go

For the rears, after the plastic pins are removed make sure the

Lock doors and push down on pin again until you hear a second pop,
this will seat the pin on the ball joint.

When I installed my OEM AMG pins the rears would not stay put. I used some 5-minute epoxy in the pin shaft receptacle to glue them on.

try this...

my installation story...

my fronts when screwed in all the way weren't the same height... i fiddled with it but couldn't get it just right with the AMG pointing the way i wanted... so i had to just adjust one side a little higher by unscrewing it... it barely moves but i can live with it...

the rears were a pain to pop off... i couldn't get a good grip on it and i didn't have much to work with as tools... so i finally ended up grabbing like 5 rubber bands... and wrapped it around the bottle neck of the stock pin... then i used a small towel to grip it and finally got them to pop off... i also used this trick on one of the fronts because it made the initial unscrewing a lot easier, then the rest by hand

now the rears were tricky... it wasn't as easy as explained here for me... i don't know if it's because i have a 2010... but when i put it in the unlocked position and put the new pin on and pushed down, guess what... it just pushes down with little force and locks the door... no pop or nothing... i could pull the pin right off... so it's just sitting on top of the little ball...

after doing this several times to figure out how i'm supposed to get this initial first pop... i almost gave up and planned to just leave it like this... but i wanted to try again...

this time i used the stock rear pins... and i placed the bottom part of the pin on top of the head of the new pins... i then put a towel over the top of the stock pin so i wouldn't hurt my hand when i hammered it in... after a couple of hits, or if that failed i just pushed on it hard with the palm of my hand... when this succeeded it pushed the pin all the way down... so far down to a point when it freaked me out like i lost it... but it basically looked like the pics above... (Post #86))

since it was locked, i unlocked it and the pin came up a bit... i didn't want it to be this low when locked... so i tried to pull on the pin a bit... and it came up slightly and stayed... i tested it by locking and unlocking a few times and it ended up looking like the rears in the pics above (Post #72) this member didn't like it that way, but i liked it better than it being down inside the door practically...

hopes this helps some members out...

One nice thing about the glue method I used is you can get all the pins to be perfectly even... Mine front and back are in the same position locked/unlocked.

I'll get you a pic posted later... They are very close to flush, when locked they stick up like 1/16" from the highest part of the door. I didn't want to even risk pushing down hard on the rears on my 2-week old car..

On the fronts, the driver side was loose and screwed on easy, the passenger front took tons of torquing down to get where I wanted it.

Nah that's jenky man! Get all 4 - my car is 2 weeks old, so you can imagine my apprehension in breaking anything. Using posts I found the rears are very, very simple:

1. Grab with Pliers and yank STRAIGHT UP ... not too fast. They will pop right off.

2. Take your rear-door pin and line the shaft with some epoxy, just enough to fully cover the inside of the shaft receptacle (no drips, just enough). Now drop the pin on the shaft, turn the logo how you like it and wait an hour.

3. Enjoy the look! I have no intention of EVER going back to stock pins.

Seems daunting, but really a piece of cake. Also some have reported that they slip on and stay on, so you may be a lucky one! Mine - not so much.

Got mine at GetMercedesParts for $210, they are the OEM AMG pins. eBay stuff should be fine as well.

The OEM should be sold for less from your dealer. I got mine free from my dealer as a gift, but I think they listed for like 80 euro.

Another round of ICE
I bought mine from a forum member, who paid $50. He sold them to me, unused, for $35. The box shows made in Japan, in English, but the front cover shows Geprufte Qualitat in German. The SKU under the bar code is 901780972852, in case that would help with a search.

From another post (where I found out how to source mine):

The official AMG Door Pins from http://www.getmercedesparts.com/

Part numbers:

You have to click on the Search Mercedes Parts link and enter the part number/s in the Search by Part Number box.

Sold EACH you will need 2 + 2 to make a complete set.
