C300 Sport 2010 - Lag - any solutions
#26
I have not had to reset mine since January. In any case one wonders why Mercedes Benz dont make their automobiles to perform flat out all the time? Why does a transmission have to "learn" (was it stupid to begin with?), and why does the fly-by-wire accelerator corrupt its information as you use it? (which is basically the reason why you have to reset).

If all this does is set the throttle point that triggers an automatic downshift (which from my observations is correct) then the same effect can be gained by flooring it for a moment or using the autostick feature.

You'd think so but it doesn't work that way. I floor it occasionally but doing so doesn't change it in the same way as a reset.

U know I have the 2011 c300 and I really don't notice the problem u guys describe, perhaps they fixed it in the 2011 or something. My old 06 c230 had SEVERE lag with shiftin gears it was horrible, on the 2011 c300 it's really smooth it was a really big difference.

Does it matter what year the car is? I just got a 2009 C300 Special Edition and the lag was surprising, reminded me of my first SAAb 900 Turbo, but much more tolerable. The sport mode is more to my liking. I will try this reset and report back.

The 2011 C300 and C350 do not have the kickdown switch previous years had. The pedal mechanism and software have been redesigned.
The original thread asked for solutions for accelerator lag on the C300, which has been addressed.

You can make some improvement if the ECU or TCM does not have the latest MB up-date.
As said before, you can reset the throttle position sensor in about 5 minutes in your garage. And you can mod this proceedure to get better response, as I said in my thread about a year ago. A step toward the sprintbooster mod:
Do the 5 minute update, but instead of holding it to the floor, just press throttle to the point of where resistance can be felt. This gives more response, and will allow downshifts to occur more readily.
--------------------------
Manuals will react to same mod, but if you like it as is don't bother.

Do an accelerator reset:
Ignition switch in position 1
Press accelerator pedal HALF WAY DOWN
Turn off ignition switch still holding pedal, wait 10 seconds.
Wait 5 minutes before restarting car.
This will make the C300 behave as if a Sprint Booster was installed.
They are many threads and testimonies, search for "reset". Some think they are resetting the TCU (not true), but it is just a recalibration of the accelerator.

This helped resolve my "lag" issue in my luxury version, and I drive around in "C" mode the most. The car then "re-learns" your driving style. So to make the changes stick, drive around like a bat out of hell for a few days after resting it.

I am not squealing wheels or any such thing, but the "sport driving" I am doing is a lot of fun... 0-30 very quickly, tight cornering,
50-70 quickly...that sort of thing.

ECU tuning is for no-brainer...
Had my 2008 for about 3 years and it's now almost 100K miles. Everything run perfectly except for lag of acceleration. Bought a couple of octane booster, seriously consider ECU tuning for $800.
Now performed the throttle recalibration (or TCU reset for some). Results are amazing!! Bought OBD2 and Dashcommand to measure true results:
Highway on-ramp, merging with no effort and still use under 150 torque, less than 100 HP. Who else and why else someone need ECU tuning to gain 20HP/20 torque while you have used only 65% of the MB capacity??
There's only a minor catch: when driving very conservatively, I have mileage even above manual (28 mpg hway). However, with recalibration, it may take a hit of about 1-2 mpg below par (i.e. city could be 15-16 instead of 17). That's the only catch as it's not optimal. I did 80% toward the floor (not half; not 100%).
A very happy camper!
