End of lease questions
hey guys, i wanted to ask, when a lease ends and you passed your mileage limit, you just need to pay the amount of miles you passed right?(in my case 0.20 cents per mile as it says on the lease). im pretty sure that ill pass my mileage limit. i dont need to tell mercedes benz or anything, ill just pay it at the end right?

i see, and why is it going to be 10 cents per mile? or that was only for your lease? is it like if u tell them before your lease is up it will be 10 cents instead of 20 cents(as on my lease)?
and say u purchased miles and at the end of the lease you havent used up all your additionally purchased miles, do they refund u anything or no?

Are u sure about this? I called MB Financial and they said I can get the additional miles but at the same rate of 0.20 per mile. I am more than 3 months from the lease end, is it only offered within 3 months of lease end?

My brother has been leasing cars for the last 20 years or so and he is always over but he has told me if he leases anouther of the same brand they will eat the miles. Not sure if this is true or not as I have never leased. I have also heard that most car makers will take a leased car back early if you plan on staying with that brand.

Whether or not a dealer eats the miles totally depends on the dealer...some do it and some don't. My 07 C280 and my parents 07 E350 went back at the same time...we were both over miles and we were both releasing another Mercedes through them. The best they would do is to eat half of the miles (I think both cars were over 3,000 miles).
Honestly...there is no way a dealer is going to eat an extra 10,000 miles! MAYBE if you're upgrading from a C to an S, CL, or SL...but I highly doubt they're just gonna let that many miles slide if you're going with another C-Class...just too costly for them. Were you not paying attention to your mileage at all to go over by THAT much???
Mercedes does run a special promotion that they will take a car back 5 months early if you re-lease another Mercedes. So if you plan on getting another Benz you may want to look into this then to buy extra miles...whether you buy extra miles now or pay the fees at the end of the lease, it's still going to cost you $$$$$

Depending on the model, usually C's, E's and ML's, and you lease through MB Financial, Mercedes will pull forward your lease, meaning you can turn your car 3-5 months early with no penalty as long as you lease or buy another MB. Great if you are over miles or have a major service due. It would be great if you can turn in the car early and have MB eat any extra miles. I've turned in my last 2 MB's this way.

MB Financial will often send you a letter sometime after the first 12 months of your lease have passed. If you call, they'll sell you more miles and spread the cost over your remaining payments. So if you know you're going to go over, you can pay the overage slowly rather than pay it all at the end. I don't think there's a discount; I think you pay the same rate whether it's upfront or at the end.
If you buy additional miles during the lease term and don't use them, I think that you can get that amount refunded but I'm not 100% positive on that. Maybe someone else can either confirm or correct that. I know that you won't get anything refunded if you're under the regular contract mileage and you can't call during the term to reduce your mileage. You can only buy more, not sell any miles back.
Also if you want to pre-purchase more mileage, you don't have to call right at 12 months. You can actually call at any time, probably up to around 90 days to lease expiration as someone else mentioned, but obviously the longer you wait, the fewer months remain over which to spread the amount. However, if you're going to stick with Mercedes for your next car, I wouldn't pre-purchase any additional mileage because you very well may be able to get at least some of your overage waived as a sort of "loyalty discount."
Regarding whether you have any obligation to notify them during the lease term that you're over mileage, you don't have to do that. You just show up at your turn-in and they look at the final reading on the odometer.

That was not the case when my BMW lease ended, I when to the same dealer and I wanted to buy another 5 series and all they offered me was to void the last 3 payments and they wanted me to pay for the 5000 miles I drove over my limit, so I decided to sell it privately..

MBFS pretty much always waives the turn-in fee if you lease or finance another Mercedes through them. Sometimes they'll also waive some excess wear and tear up to a certain amount, say $500 or so. They won't waive overdue maintenance and typically don't waive mileage but the dealer might offer an incentive for that.

what do u mean maintenance, as in if i didnt do an oil change and air/oil filter change? ill be returning the car before i hit the 40 K milestone so i dont think i will need to do any major maintenance on the car. Thanks alot for the info by the way.
