Radio buttons chipping

The number buttons on my radio panel and the passenger seat heat are chipping badly. Is this a common issue with the W204? Is it covered under warranty? Thanks.

Looks like this:

what the ****? are you punching them or something?

that is totally weird to see. they may not be covered but your dealer might be cool and swap it out for you anyway.

it looks like your passenger really likes the heated seat too haha

Yeah that may be warranty or normal wear and tear.

I'm not the primary driver of the car- a certain someone with long finger nails is.

That's actually not my interior- its a pic I found of another C class for sale that happens to have the same issue. Mine isn't as bad, but pretty close. It's hideous.

I wonder how much they'd nail me for it if I had to pay out of pocket. Any guesses? Can just the buttons be replaced or does the whole radio unit have to be replaced?

The buttons have a special matte varnish. Did someone use a solvent based cleaner on them? Looks more like physical damage, however.

The individual buttons probably cannot be substituted, implying a total replacement of the radio headunit.

The seat heater switch of course can be individually replaced.

Good luck getting that fixed - the dealer may classify that as wear and tear. If you do get it fixed, I'd recommend a set of driving gloves as a stocking stuffer for the next holiday season.

this is a stretch, but maybe nails with nail polish cleaner making contact with them over time might have worn them down. maybe if the mrs. just used a bit of nail polish remover and then sat in the car and then pressed the buttons a little tiny bit might of transferred over, and that acetone **** is brutal

That definaly has to be some chemical on it. I dont see how just those numbers are worn out and not the others.

From what I understand, our interior painted surfaces are easily damaged by Armour All, etc. Looks like the passenger side may have been exposed while the drivers side didn't.

Looks exactly like my wife's C300. It's not armor-all or any other solvent in our case...it is just my wife using her nails tips to press the buttons instead of the soft pad of her fingertip.

It irks me to no end but whattayagonnado...my SA had a smile on his face when I brought it up with regard to warranty...wear and tear per his boss.

Mine wasn't as bad only couple of buttons chipped..brought it up at service and dealer replaced the whole unit..quoted price on paperwork was around 3000 I think. Buttons cannot be replaced alone.

Yeah, I'm quite confident its just from her fingernails. I can't stand to look at it and you'd think it wouldn't bother her, but shes the one who brought it up to me.

Yeah I figured that'd be the ballpark range. I think it varies though on whether or not your car has navigation (mine does). It costs more for the unit with nav as it includes the navigation guts and the DVD changer, etc.

If I can't claim warranty, I'll just live with it. I wonder if I can get a vinyl or print shop to make some custom small matte black stickers that fit over the buttons...kind of cheap but would likely look much better.

All i can say is wowwwww...

I've got a small nick on my steering wheel from the mrs. ring or something. But nothing like THAT or even remotely close. The inside of the door handles take a beating too... but.

Get her a mini cooper or something next time... At least it has those toggle switches and not buttons!!!!
