Cool 39K Transmission Sevice and Transfer Case Service

Does anybody have any knowledge on the 39K Transmission Service and what it includes? I am getting quotes from various local MB dealers and the price range from $299-$550. The dealer that quoted $550 has informed me that the lower $299-$350 services quoted only includes the Transmission Flush, Fluid and Filter change but does not include the Transfer Case. That their $550 price includes service needed for the Transfer Case. I was not aware that the Transfer Case needed servicing and thought that only the Transmission Flush, Fluid and Filter change was needed at 39K? This dealer also informed me that this service is required at every 39K and not just a onetime 39K service. Is this dealer pulling my leg?

The service section in your owner's manual give the service intervals for everything.

The trans fluid change is indeed at each 39K miles. The transfer case fluid change may or may not be at the same interval but the book will tell you.

This is what I found in the manual for 40,000 miles:

I had the Transmission Service recently at a Mercedes dealership and I also asked them to change my Rear Axle Differential fluid, it wasn't changed before and the car has 130.000km. This fluid is pretty expensive but the whole transmission and rear diff service costed around 350$.

From your picture I see that they suggest to change the Rear Diff fluid only if you have an AMG version, but I think it's good to change it anyway, if not at each Transmission Service, at least once at each 3-4 years. (In your case you can wait for another 40.000 miles)

According to previous discussions and the maintenance manual, I thought it was only ONE TIME at 39K miles not EACH time at 39K miles for the automatic transmission oil and filter change.

I'm interested in this topic too. Does anyone know if other shops can do this job too? Mine needs servicing but I don't want to take it to the dealer unless it's necessary.

Technically, you are right, but I understand this rule is only for N/A. ROW is every 60,000km., and many think every 60,000km is indeed best.

That is what 2008 manual said.

However, I think later years now say every 40k miles. It makes more sense honestly.
