ALL FOUR TYRES FAILING
All four ( front & rear ) of my Bridgestone Turanza ER300 205/55/16 have developed deep cracks down to the wire .
The cracks are about 10mm 15mm long & only on the inner shoulder of the tyre.
The number of cracks on each tyre varies from 2 to 3 at this stage & they are 3 to 5 mm deep.
They actually look like damage ie cuts but I cannot believe that this is the case as they all have occured on the inner shoulder. It appears to me that the rubber in this area is opening up under the stresses of cornering.
The rear tyres had nearly worn down to the wear strips ( 34,000km) but the fronts have 2.75 mm of tread above the wear strips to go ( 45,000km.).
I would be be grateful to know whether anyone else has experienced this & would welcome any comment as to why it would happen .
A certain South African ! ( thank you) recommended Mitchelin Primacy HP for country roads . They receive good writeups regarding wear & performance .Seems I will be purchasing them next week.

The Michelin Primacy HP, manufactured in France, is about the most expensive tire for the non-C63 W204. My C300 came factor equipped with them. TireRack.com rates them highly for the W204 and is their most expensive recommended tire.

As I only have 14,000 kms on the C300, it is difficult to judge the wear. I must mention that about half of the kms were driven at speeds well over 200 kph. The tire is W speed rated.

That is what I thought when I saw the first one . Now noticing that all four have the same holes in the inner shoulder of the tyres , I have second thoughts!!.

Looking a Tirerack, the Michelin Primacy HP is $239 per tire. (not $154 US).
Probably would consider the Continental ExtremeContact DW, as people say they are grippy, ride well and are very QUIET. However, there are many. many complaints about the thin sidewalls developing bubbles or even blowing out because of pothole damage. This is a major consideration in Mexico where the road surfaces are brutal despite the opportunity to drive at high speeds (get out of Sydney much? Imagine it is the same in Australia).
If you corner hard, the Primacy HPs are excellent as the sidewall is stiff and doesn't distort much. If your AgilityControl warning light flashes frequently, the Primacy HP may be a better tire for your driving style, as the Conti's soft sidewall design distorts quite easily.
