Depends if oem filter is causing a pressure drop.

In the case of my rx7, I measured high drop across filter box assembly, and narrowed it down to the snorkel inlet opening to the box. After modifying that opening, measurements showed no difference with oem filter vs no-filter. So no K&N drop-in needed there.

Hey Petje,

Yup I did.. Initial feeling was it took care of the turbo lag at low RPMs.
But there was a big jerk / torque kick in from 2nd to 3rd gear.
I thought it might be the TCU getting confused over the new gains, so i followed the instructions on the forum to reset my TCU.
And now, my CEL came on... lol....

So i've taken everything out and going to bring in to the dealership and play dumb on Monday afternoon.

I've spoken to the RaceChip guys and the 2 sensors that they are modifying the signals are the boost and pressure sensor from the turbo.

One of them is easy enough to reach with the boot open. The other is a pain in the *** hiding under the air filter assembly....

Even though the CEL is on, the engine stills respond wonderfully.. But better bring it in just to be sure.

Ok , yes play dumb haha

Have you asked racechip about the cel light?

If the dealer reset this and you install the racechip im sure the light will come again

Ok only 2 sensors they are manipulating? I know the one under the airfilter....

In other words: no. Just read the rest of this thread; things "look nice" and there's a check engine light on. Race tech for sure.

I had the dealer reset the light today.
It was code P017127 & P017122 and it reads that the mixture in cylinder bank 1 was too lean.

It apparently only came on after i reset the TCU, so I'm hoping it won't happen again.

I also had the car on the dyno today.
everything was stock except for the quad exhaust.
It read 149hp and 240N torque on the wheels.

I'll be driving it for a week as it is to see if the error comes up again.
If nothing happens by next week, i'll put the K&N filter and race chip back in to see what gains i might have on the dyno.

As for performance gain on the air filter, there are 2 answers for it.
The technical one which is to measure the pressure drop and such by kevink2 (which is a nice read )
The other one is your gut feeling when you step on the accelerator and feels that your engine is more ready to rev...

I'm not too much of a performance junkie. I just like to have a certain look to my car.
The reason i got the race chip is to see if the performance gain can eliminate that turbo lag i have. Its really irritating when you need to cross a junction and your car jerks off after the 2nd gear..

after some fiddling (20 mins at least) and almost breaking the connector, i found out that its not actually that hard to remove it. You have to pull the grey part back and push down so it unclips.. The black part actually works like a pivot so you can remove it easily...

hope that helps

C180 CGI 2011
KN Air filter for W204 CGI

Just fitted KN filter to recently acquired W204,using Kaewens step by step photo instructions.

It transformed the cars responses and smoothness instantly.

BUT, you would not believe the state of the old filter ! Completely black and full of rubbish. It makes me question if Dealerships ever do what they charge for.........possibly never been renewed in 37000 miles. Or is this normal ???

My thanks to the above, and to the forum for guidance.

Now, whats next, OIL, I think !!

Slimty. (UK)
