copying MP3 files to Music Register

I have problem copying MP3 files from either a USB drive or an SD card to my Music Register. However, I can if I use the CD as there is a "REC" function on the bottom of the CD screen. There are no "REC" function in both the USB & SD screens.

According to the COMMAND user manual and the COMMAND interactive online manual, one can copy music files (in certain formats and MP3 is one of them) from 1 of 3 media: CD disk, memory card & USB storage device.

I have brought this over to my dealer's attention and they tried it and still couldn't get it to work. They said they would follow this up.

In the meantime, has anyone been successful in copying music files from either their USB drive or SD card to the Music Register. I'd be very interested to know if you can do so and how, if you don't mind.

Thank you in advance.

Like you I have only been able to do it from a music CD. It may be an issue with Copyright Infringement, but that is pure speculation.

MBUSA disabled the option of copying music, unless it is copied from an AUDIO CD. They neglected to update the owners manual or sales documentation.

I wonder if a class action lawsuit is possible? I only bring the thought up because I feel that MBUSA certainly deserves it.

From what I've seen on here, that's correct.

This is what the option should look like (as in my Australian w204).

.
This option is working in mine as well (simply go into the Music Register then go in the Music Register menu then click Copy MP3 Music and follow the wizard)
.

Hi JaCe88 & Yonosai,

Thank you both for your input. I saw the YouTube video, in which there's a "copy MP3 music files" option within the Music Register. As demonstrated, this allows you to copy files from different media to the Music Register.

Unfortunately, my menu does not have such an option. Hence, I'm unable to perform such copy function. Imagine if I have to upload thousands of songs to my Music Register (which has a 10GB capacity), and doing 15-20 songs per CD (that's 4-5 min. per song for a R/W CD that holds 80 min.), I would probably turn into a skeleton before I'm done with my humungous MP3 collection.

And hence you have a business case for convincing customers to buy the Media Interface kit. Music Register, even with the copy function, isn't exactly that useful. More of a gimmicky use of the hard drive which is required for the GPS data.

I just can't find the appeal of the media interface kit. You can get a huge memory card or USB thumb drive extremely cheaply, throw all your music on there in very high quality, and get full functionality with album art and all. And on the 2012 you also get Bluetooth streaming.

Why bother with the interface kit?

1. Media Interface kit gives full iPod integration and lets you search playlists/etc. Not as wholesome as the Media Interface Plus kit which is an extra $300 or so (RRP) and doesn't add much, but it does a good job.

2. Bluetooth audio streaming is rubbish in terms of quality and functionality.

(EDIT: Also the MI kit comes standard in Aus)

You can still search and use playlists from an SD or USB plus it even has a knockoff of cover flow.

Bluetooth audio is certainly garbage.

If I connect my iPhone to the USB port it won't connect? I've never tried it as I don't store my music on it - I hate being forced to manage songs through iTunes.

I must say, ever since I upgraded my iPhone software to iOS 5 the audio quality of Bluetooth streaming has improved immensely !

I got the media interface only cuz I was told that if you're using bluetooth audio streaming than the phone function won't work.

Got my car last week, and I'm streaming bluetooth audio perfectly while also receiving and making calls over bluetooth all on my iPhone (ios5). Bluetooth audio quality is a bit weaker than the other interfaces.

Also wish I could copy movies to the hard-drive but it only recognizes songs and pics...

I have the media interface kit, but I am also disappointed that I can not copy files to the hard drive. I have iTunes Match and even using the interface kit, my music streams (unless it is copied locally onto the phone) I do not want to run up my data bill just driving around town listening to music. I have resorted to just getting a big SD card and copying my songs there. It still allows for search and shows the cover art.

Yes, I'm also using an SD card with huge capacity to keep all my songs and play it that way. Just didn't like to find out the hard way that I cannot do something where the manual says that I can.

Cheers!

for the record, making a CD-RW into an audio CD didn't reveal the copy to music register function either. I've done it with a regular CD-R last time though.

Media register?

Can't seem to copy at all, from any media source!

The owners Manuel doesn't even cover the media register...

I'm not seeing the copy files option in the media register menu.

Any help would be great!

If you're in the U.S., you can't do it. U.S. cars can only copy a CD to the music register. They can't copy MP3s.

Also, if you want bluetooth Audio, get something like this and put it in the glovebox. Best bluetooth streaming quality, and no need for the media interface kit.

I have a 2010 E350 sedan. I've been able to store tracks from audio CD's to the music register (it will NOT load MP3 CD's.). Can I use an SD card in this car? I don't know where I would load one. Also: I have been unable to bring up the list of songs in the music register. When I access the register it just starts playing from the first track.

Any help would be appreciated.
