I notice you wrote "blacking out", and not even "tinting". This is a really bad idea and I hope you will reconsider on behalf of everyone who will be driving behind you at night.

2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland
My opinion, send them out to someone to get tinted (such as Jon's Tinted Tails in NJ or Scott's Paint & Performance in OH) and just do them a Black Cherry or a med/dark tint. Thats what I did on my Grand Cherokee. I want to tint mine but I am not sure which shade to go with as my car's palladium silver.
Here's a pic of another member with cherry tint on a white W204 (hope they don't mind):
I tried the vinyl and I did a good job but the edges started peeling and it started to fade quickly. The paint is fantastic when done well, nice and glossy. No comment on VHT nightsahde, never tried it but its availabel at Autozone or similar if you want togo that route.
Also, as long as the light output is there it *shouldn't* be an illegal modification. I was worried a few times when I saw police behind me but all was good. The tint is very dark but the light will still come through, some say it enhances the light output; im skeptical. Just think when you tint your windows - hard to see in but you can see out.
FWIW, I tinted my Grand Cherokee's tailights Black Cherry through Scotts Paint & Performance and it cost me $100 incl. shipping and I was without tailights for 5 days.

*Couldnt figure out how to include the pics and re-size them to a smaller size .

I had my vinyl wrapped and they hold up fine plus the shop I use we take care of any problem as long as I own it. If the shop is willing to back there work you shouldn't have a problem. Also the tint they used was like a one way mirror it doesn't lessen the brightness of the lights.

I like the cherry tint on the taillights. Anyone know of a reputable paint or tint shop in the Greater Vancouver area that can do such a professional looking work?
