Install 2012 COMMAND ONLINE Interface into 2008 w204
Is this possible?
If not directly with software, what parts would I need to add in order to make the software upgrade possible?
I would love to have the ability to be mobile hotspot and have google and bluetooth streaming audio...
Is it remotely possible with a $1000 budget?
please lets discuss if it is...
thanks

This would require a hardware upgrade to the new HU. I imagine the actual HU would fit (but I really have no idea!) the problem is that the screen is new, so - does the old flip up screen work with the new head unit? That's probably the big question to start.
Also, before you get excited - Comand Online doesn't support iPhones, it doesn't support most Motorola phones, and it doesn't support any Android phones - it's really just another manifestation of MBs cluelessness.

I was thinking maybe a plug in adapter and hard drive swap or a firware upgrade would do the trick... to make it compatible with the latest command online software...guess one can hope...

Can't say I see much advantage to the PC Card slot. Everyone just gets an SD adapter, plus there are compatibility issues with SDHC cards as I understand it. Plus you can stick a 1TB (actually im not sure what the memory limit is. I know it is at least hundreds of gigs) hard drive in the center console (if one were so inclined) to store all your music.

this would be an amazing mod for me as well. hell all I want is bluetooth streaming and ipod interface that I can control through command screen instead of the 08's ipod interface which u can only control with the steering wheel buttons.

These are all great questions. Internally I think the fit of the system is the same however externally (dash) its a different fit. I am not a programmer but I would think that you would need to do some custom programming to enable the flip-up screen from the older version with the new software. There are some security issues with newer systems as well that if not done correctly you end up with a locked up door stop for a radio. Again, not knowledgeable enough on the new radios--maybe one of our high-speed programmer type members can chime in?

You can stream bluetooth music just fine. Sorry I should have been more clear - I mean none of those phones work with internet sharing (Comand Online uses Bluetooth DUN protocol which is not supported on those phones.) Those phones also do not support Message Access Protocol, so no text message support either.

You can search the mbworld forums and find it.
