'D' or 'N' when using HOLD function?
What's the point of the question? Hold works in any gear except park (obviously?)
I was thinking of a really bad situation that could happen if you have a "moment of stupidity".
Car is "parked" but you're using the hold function in drive. You assume the car is in park and don't look at the instrument cluster. You tap the gas pedal to rev it, and instead smash into the car in front of you.

in terms of wear and tear? that's an interesting point.
When you shift to N there are no stress on your brakes (unless on a slope) and your transmission. But if you shift from D to N and back to D very often, are you stressing your gearbox?

when I drive manual, I put in N and use handbrake. so I'm thinking if I can do the same thing for auto, but use HOLD function instead of handbrake.
