Service tips
Hello - I bought an used 2008 c300. Running well. So far liked it. It has 40K miles. I was not sure about the oil and other misc maintenance performed earlier. I called the used car dealer and he said he changed the oil before selling the car.
Is there way a way to find out oil life left? ( like Acura?)
Also any tips on other thing I should consider? Don't want to spend money for the sake of spending. Looking for responsible thing to do to keep the car in good condition. (should I consider going to private garage?)

I'd always consider indy shops, private garages. In fact, find a couple that you can use and more importantly , consult with you know?
I use an indy for anything wear and tear, as well as mods, and the dealer for warrenty
issues and or alignments and other minor things. But I use all resources possible, and cross reference like hell 3 places, 4 if you count the boards.....
it seems like a lot of dealers prey on the fact that not everyone knows their car in and out you know?
respect for taking care of it!
and welcome

Simply ask the selling dealer to provide you with proof they did the oil change, which they have to bill out internally, should list the type and when they did it and of course the part for the filter if done right. If they cant do that, assume they didnt do it. Best way to see oil life is check its color. Take a look, and ask the dealer for proof, they may be dumb and put non syn or the wrong weight or a many diffrent things. My experience with non MB dealers is their quite clueless on these cars.
Congrats on the purchase! Good luck

Good advice. Colour tells you nothing about the condition of the oil. Modern highly detergent oils darken very quickly which is a sign that they are doing their job. To be sure your car has fresh oil & the correct fresh oil - either analyse the stuff or far easier - just change it then you have peace of mind.

Yes, but still looking for finding out a message or warning about 'when to change the oil for W204'?
Do we get a service message or the reminder on dashboard screen ?
There got to be a way to see the engine oil life used/left based on driving conditions. Most of cars now a days have such feature.

You will see a dash message for an "A Service " & later a' B Service'. These services are time /mileage calculated only & not by the type of driving or condition of oil .
I would as others have suggested , start afresh with your servicing & have the engine oil & filter changed now. You do not know whether the used car dealer is true to his word & also whether he put the correct MB specified oil in.
Your auto transmission is also due for service at 39,000 miles.
Check your manual to see what interval all your servicing needs to be done.
Be informed ,take control of your servicing & tell the service manager what you want done rather than relying on them.
Enjoy the car.
