new 4matic, shaking at 2500 miles :(
2500 miles, came to a stop in higher elevations. engine light came on. car started shaking like i was in a massage chair. tested transmission shifting, that was fine.
will let you know what the dealer says.
shaking is gone now, but little engine light is still on.
no error msg though..

1) Bad batch of E10 fuel (Kinda doubt it though)
2) Faulty Coil-Pack* (My best guess) Link: https://mbworld.org/forums/glk-class...al-issues.html
*There have been a few reports of these going on brand new Benz's....

Update to my problem: autobahn motors in bay area San Francisco MOVED the faulty coilpack from the third cylinder to the fourth cylinder.
They sent me off, then on the freeway 10 miles later, car starts the shakes and comes to a halt. It drove barely 20mph back to the dealership.
Now I'm back in the waiting room.
Why couldn't they have just replaced the coil pack when the engine was open the first time!?
And the check-in dude got a big black grease mark on my interior headliner.
So sad.

So... They just moved the coilpack and didn't even test drive it? If so, I'd get ahold of some kind manager somewhere and raise a hell.
And then there is the grease mark in the headliner to deal with, too!
That car is under warranty and the work that it needs definitely sounds like something that should be covered under it. Hence, by this time you should be in a loaner and while they are working on the car to properly address the issue.
Especially after you had to come limping back. Damn...
Good luck!

My vehicle once had a similar issue. After fueling up I started the car, noticed terrible shaking and the CEL blinking after pulling only a few feet away. Put the car in park and shut it off. Then re-started with no problems.
I went to my dealer the next day and they chalked it up to some kind of issue after refueling where I perhaps started it before the filler cap was on and caused the car to misfire or something.
It never happened again in the 30,000+ miles I put on after that occurence.
I'm glad they got down to the root of your issue. But I am surprised that they just swapped the coil packs around, especially without further testing or confirmation that it actually did anything good. If I were you I would get a new dealership to service you if one is close by... That just shows negligence and lazyness...

update 2: got the loaner, albeit a POS. i did not give service a hard time, i see other people give them a hard time and it is not my style. i'll write a letter. letters are typically effective in my experience.

I would imagine that it would record which cylinder the coilpack was faulty in? It is a relatively easy fix if you know about cars and have done spark plug changes before. But not something I would recommend someone who has never done minor engine disassembly or no mechanical background should undertake.

Indeed - PO300 for misfires & then 301, 302 etc for cylinder.

Driving extensively with one dead cylinder can place undue torsional stress on the crankshaft.
You will receive a questionnaire from MB along with the dealership either by regular mail or by e-mail. After you fill it out, there will be a chance for you to describe what happened, and the inconvenience this episode has caused you. Fill it out and a box will appear that will ask you if you wish to be contacted by Mercedes Benz Customer Care, check it, and then wait for their call.
This will get the dealerships attention more than any private letter will ever do.

Morons is too kind. Criminally dangerous comes to mind. An engine compartment fire and potentially catastropic accident could have occured. Tell M-B that. If the dealer does this again the next person may not be as lucky as you were.

I have a pretty good dealer that is owned by MBSA but I'm not shy to let them know when I'm not happy. I even ended up getting half of their drivers fired. They used to fill up & test customer cars down the road outside my office window. Everytime I saw a driver thrashing a customer's car - frequently brand new, I would phone the dealer principal with the registration number. We soon weeded out the bad eggs.

Yeah, I feel that we have all had our share of service horror stories - and at MB perhaps. My "low point" was when I brought my car in for a quick issue and didn't have time to remove my "valuables". It wasn't anything important, I figured, heck, I'm waiting it out, only 30 minutes, and whatever. Well, to my astonishment after leaving and going home I found out that someone sat in my seat and sifted through the cupholder where I keep my change.
Well, I went to go an pick up some fast food after leaving the dealership and noticed that there were absolutely NO quarters in my cupholder. I had a GOOD amount in there too, with a few nickels and pennies. And I am certain of this because before dropping off my car I used some loose change to get a coffee for the wait and thought to myself that there is enough change (and quarters in particular) to make it worthwhile to cash at the bank later.
Did it bankrupt me, no, but it really pissed me off. The fact that someone sat in my car (and probably took a while, because there was a lot of change in it) and picked out EVERY SINGLE LAST QUARTER, leaving only dimes, nickels and pennies really irked me. There was probably upwards of $20-30 in change in there. It has completely lost my trust in leaving anything of value in the car when I bring it in now, adding more headache's to the already cumbersome process of trying to make sure I get a loaner (let alone a mercedes) and having to bend over to pay for the service...

I wonder when you have bad coil pack, if you could unplug one at a time, until you find one that when you unplug it, no change occurs in engine performance (besides original problem). That might let you know the bad one?

I supervise servicing & washing of my car at the dealer. Otherwise I stay well away. IMHO trouble free cars are ones that are seldom touched by dealers. We have to go to dealers for servicing because all cars here are under motorplan.

That is one way, fore sure. However, OP should have no need to do that as his is covered under warranty. The dealer should have put him in a loaner right away and sent him on his way.
