I think I've seen this before, if my memory serves me right its on a dumped 350z. if so the car was super low and had super stretched tires.... It should be no surprise to anyone that this happened, specially if it was racing/hard driving.

the title should say: "dont buy crap wheels AND expect high performance"

Good advice to get high quality wheels. Unfortunately, one cannot tell from price, which is driven primarily by marketing, and only somewhat by the producer's investment and manufacturing costs, which in of itself, is no guarantee of quality either. Well made pressure cast wheels will outlive poorly made forged wheels. Reputation and others' experience with a supplier are good indicators for decision-making.

I definitely agree on buying quality stuff. However, it would be interesting to hear the whole story behind what happened.

This is a pretty old picture thats been around on many car forums. The rims are Chikara LS1 (BBS LM Reps). They were on a 350z I believe. The car lost control and spun out and the rims shattered on impact on whatever else the dude hit.

Its clearly not just a normal accident. The guy was pretty much either racing or being a idiot that hit something hard enuff to make these reps bust like that. Either way the car is and rims are in bad shape at the end of what he did.

I had Chikara LS1 and other reps and Rotas on previous cars before they were fine for the time I used them. Just dont expect to have the strength of the higher brands out there. I wouldnt track in them, or race in them, but Daily driving you should be fine they as long as they are all JWL/VIA approved. Watch out for pot holes =)

This is what happened:

I was driving in a tunnel and suddenly my car started swerving. I was afraid that one of my tires blew out, but after I finally came to a stop I found that my rim broke on me and separated from my tire. Thank God for the Anti-Slip function on our cars... it helped me control the car with minimal damage & I suprisingly didn't crash into any walls. I tried contacting the company 88Rotors and they haven't taken responsibility. They told me that they haven't seen anything like this happen. I had to replace my rear camber arms and also my rear struts.

nothing wrong with reps.. most brands today are reps of something.. i have a set of rota grids on my evo which are reps of volk te37.. i use it for daily driving and i effing love them.. good price.. killer concave..

i actually have my real volk ce28n up for sale because i don't feel i get enough use from them to have 4k tied up in them (including tires)

there's good reps and bad reps..

I’ve discovered hairline cracks in my OE AMG wheels during track day preparations, too.
Fortunate to have avoided similar catastrophic failure though.

Back in my Porsche days I had a friend who had BBS wheel seperate almost exactly like that. But he did hit the edge of a curb at high speed.
