yup, a resonance in the exhaust would do it. Rather than fighting the noise with cover-ups, always best to nip it at the source.

Is rubberized spray going to work if I spray it under my car to cover up the thin sheet of metal??
If I were to put back the stock resonator, I would have to redo all the piping again because I welded a magnaflow muffler (dual/dual) at this place where the resonator is..and muffler guy already redo the piping to the tips to make my maganaflow fit. so it will cost to much to put the stock back on...

I did aftermarket resonators w my meistershafts and it wasnt too bad of an install. I had already custom piped it and wasnt a huge pain to install them, and theres no drone at all and sounds badass. I did dynamat under the car along the midpiping and up under the spare tire compartment

+1 - All you need to do is move the critical primary or it's harmonic, or sympathetic harmonic with another source out of the audible range. I did not realise this was a modified exhaust as Sportstick points out. I would try moving a metal weight up & down the pipe with a screw clamp & see where the resonance is least objectionable & then weld it there. Or change the resonator.

My advice would be to put mufflers on. By taking off your mufflers, not only are you getting that annoying drone, but your losing back pressure. Which in turn, means lost power... Not worth it for sound. Either way, why would you want to attract all that attention? Save the non-sense for high school kids. You drive a Benz, not a crackerjack toy.

+1 On another street/track car, I tuned with a ~stock exh, and when I put a "race" exhaust on, I lost power with the decrease in back pressure.

You'll now need to put in a dense sound barrier (like the Luxury Liner Pro link I provided) to block the sound that you couldn't prevent from happening. The OP solution of putting in insulation will help keep heat/ac in the cabin, but won't help block external noise.
hey mike can you explain how you glued in the luxury liner pro or did you just let it sit there under the tire spare?

I used velcro to hold it down in place and foil tape along the edges. There's no need for it to stick fully to the panel as it's a noise barrier and not a vibration reducer.

Cool, Ill probably do that rather than overkill it with contact spray adhesive...

So even with the THICK luxury liner pro down there in the spare tire well, you were still able to fit the spare tire back in its place?

I don't have the donut in the trunk anymore. Useless for me as the spare won't clear my BBK lol.

lol, of course... should have realized that with your wheels...

so basically, there is no way to retain the spare tire anymore once you use the luxury liner in the trunk? Or maybe cut up the luxury liner into pieces.... but that might defeat the point....

I think those that retained the spare tire, just had the damplifier pro in and no luxury liner?

That's what I did, the spare fits, and the results in noise reduction were great.....shiny foil and all!

I am glad you are happy, truly I am! But, I had to chuckle at the thought of anyone ever looking in the spare tire well and critiquing the color! That would just never be on my radar!
