Upgrade to Harman subwoofer - possible?
Hello,
I was reading this forum for a while, but this is my first question...
I have 2011 C300 4matic Sport with Multimedia system, but without Harman-Kardon audio. I am thinking about adding the OEM Harman subwoofer & aftermarket amp for it. According to Harman's site, there should be 200x270mm racetrack - shaped flat subwoofer mounted on the rear parcel shelf in Logic 7 equipped cars:
http://mercedes.harmankardon.com/en/...al.aspx#detail
My question is, are all parcel shelves the same? Does my car have the necessary openings to mount this subwoofer, if I manage to get one? I am trying to make the install as clean and OEM - looking as possible.
Thank you!

Yes, I did
Yes, that was the first thing I did. After looking at the panel, I am more puzzled then before. OEM sub is near-flat - look at the photo on Harman site, so there is no visible opening for it on the bottom of the shelf, because the magnet not supposed to stick out into the trunk.
I can't imagine M-B would make 2 different bodies - for H-K system and for regular one. I hoped somebody already took that area apart before me.

the OE HK sub is a flat sub. don't bother with HK, spend your money on a JL or rockford sub you'll be much happier.
and fitting an aftermarket sub in there is rough. eventually the sub will loosen itself up and start rattling like crazy. already tried lol.

A plea to Harman audio owners
I would really appreciate if somebody with Harman audio system could take a photo of the parcel shelf from the trunk and post it? The photo of a non-Harman shelf is below. I think that the highlighted area is where the Harman subwoofer is installed. The subwoofer is sharing the bracket with passenger - side rear speaker.
Does non-Harman system have rear speakers in the parcel shelf?
Thank you very much!

I'm going to explain it this way. I have the full HK system and added an aftermarket JL Audio Prowedge 10W6 along with their 500/1 amp because the HK sub does not perform at all. The time and money you will spend for the HK sub and amp will surely disappoint you.

Thanks!!!
To nicko36:
Thank you so much! Now I can see how the sub is mounted in the shelf. You can clearly see the speaker and the bracket.
To Norm01:
I understand your point perfectly. I am not after the "super bass" at high volume. If I use a separate amplifier / crossover to drive the OEM sub, I can set the crossover frequency and gain to add some missing bass to low-to-average volume I am listening at, without sacrificing some space in the trunk.
Thank you guys!
