2009 C300 - IPOD Integration w/ iPhone 4

First off, I apologize for making this thread because I'm sure this topic has been covered a bunch of times. However, I'm not sure if I'm understanding things 100% from reading other threads.

My iPhone 4 will play music but I have no control over the player on the phone when the phone is plugged in. Also, the songs don't come up on the screen, so I can't control the phone from there. Lastly, the phone won't charge either, which isn't something I really care about.

I saw a thread that recommends buying this adapter:
http://www.scosche.com/consumer-tech/product/1667

Will this adapter enable control over the music from the navigation...or just allow for charging? Is there another way to swap the integration kit with a new one?

Thanks

This and that.
If you're selecting the iphone/ipod setting by going in the AUX mode on the command system, then you must have some controls on your steering wheel as well?

Browse the control on the steering wheel that are on the left side by accessing different menu's using the arrow's. Eventually you will come across the one that says audio and that's where it should show what it's playing on your iphone in the middle cluster.

To browse playlists, genres and such, press the 'call' button on the steering wheel and browse using the left side control of the steering wheel.

I'm selecting auxiliary mode from the navi. When I do that, the screen on the navi pretty much goes gray and the only thing I can do is modify the bass/treble. When I go to the screen on the desh, it says iPod and has up and down arrow but no song in between the arrows. So as I said in my original post, the phone can play music but nothing in the car can control the phone (change songs, browse stuff, etc) because nothing shows up anywhere. The phone also locks the player, so in order for me to change a song, I have to unplug it, change the song, and plug it back in.

The cable is not compatible. Is there a way to adapt it? Is that the right adapter?...etc.

Thanks

This and that.
To be honest, I am not sure if I understand you.

Have you tried a regular iPod and used the car steering wheel controls with it? Does that work fine?

I just got my old ipod and stuck it in the glove box permanently. I will try my iPhone 4S today and see if it works with that or not. I am thinking if it plays music through the car but just can't control, it is maybe because you have a lock on your phone? Try getting rid of that and see if it makes any difference.

A regular old iPod will work. Any of the new devices (iPhone 3, iPhone 4, iPod Touch) does not. That's the problem. There must be connector differences.

Anyone? Am I the only one having this issue? Figured its just the outdated interface but maybe there's something else going on in my car.

PS: I have to select AUX from the drop down, since Media Interface isn't available. Was that option added later on? When AUX is selected and I go into the audio display on the dash (steering wheel), the car can sense when the iPhone is plugged in or not. However, at no point I can actually see the songs listed anywhere in the car or to even skip to the next song...etc.

Thanks

Seems like something is wrong -- have you taken it to a dealer?

My 2009 C300 has no problems controlling iphone songs, playlists, etc -- that control is avail only on the instrument display, but not on the main 5"LCD (Audio 20).

My 09 C300 w/Audio 20 plays my Iphone 4 and Itouch just fine. And yes you can only see the song name and play list on the dash between the gages.

I bought that adapter interface and it works great. I leave my ITouch in the glove box and it now keeps it charged and the controls still work.

what i understand is.....apple changed specs in 2009....5v vs 12v.....so now to have the charging function...you will need the new ipod cable...i have heard dealers can install it for you...with a price ofcourse. thats the only best solution.....adaptors will only help u with charging.
thats why i never throw my 2005 ipod photo

Ha! That's probably one shortcut I shouldn't have taken lol. I figured it out. Thanks for making me realize that something's wrong. I took the connector apart and one of the wires was ripped and coming in contact with another one. Fixed that and now everything works fine...obviously with the exception of charging, which I guess can be solved by that adapter or by getting a new cable from the dealer.

Thanks!

Funny!! I'd rather touch my wife. Come to think about it, she's the one that started calling it an ITouch! Maybe she was trying to tell me something hum..
Anyway glad you found the short. The adapter works great. Got mine on Amazon.
