c300 2010 cluster swap mph -> kmh
hello, i live in canada and my C300 comes from Usa . My cluster is in MPH and i would like to swap it with one in KM/H. I found a cluster at the junkyard from a 2010 c300 which had 2700km more then mine. I Plan to buy it and switch them when i get to the same mileage. but i found one very cheap from a local bodyshop but it has +/- 13000km less then my c300 has. I want to know if the odometrer mileage is recorded in the Ecu or the cluster to know which i should buy and if i have to match mileage. i dont want to go to the mb dealer $$$$ and my car is not under warranty anymore anyway. Help very appreciated ! Johnn

Thank you very much for your quick anwser. i cant test the one from the junkyard since it is already disassembled but they know the milleage it has when the donor car camed in. Normally what they sell has been tested or checked. i guess i will wait to reach the matching milleage. Can i have problems with MB dealer if they see i changed the cluster but they didnt do the conversion (they are very pricey!$! 2450$ of parts and labor) and is it possible that it will throw a code or light from the cluster not beeing the OE one ? ive read something about that last week

Ahh, thats a risk you'll have to take then if you want to save money. How much did it cost you to get it from the junk yard?
Instrument clusters are very much plug and play and unless they find a problem caused directly by the instrument cluster, then it will not likely void your warranty. As for OEM, technically the instrument cluster from the junk yard is an OEM part, but the car it belonged to is inoperable for whatever reason, so they salvaged it.
I don't think you'll have any problems with DTCs since they're usually related to engine/fuel systems.

Ohh ok i see. i'll buy and do the test when milleage match. Do you think te cluster wont be working if it is coded ? Do you think the ecu will record that event ? and if the Kmh cluster dosent work because it is not coded and i put the mph back, will i have a code or something telling that and un-coded cluster has been used ? sorry for all the question i just need some more info before i go into all of this i dont want to run into tech problems and get it to the MB dealer again

Bah~ Leave it to Mercedes to complicate everything. I know of cars, including BMW, that have swappable clusters that don't require coding, but maybe its just the cars these days with instrument cluster controls.

hey I'm in canada and i got my c300 from the states as well, I'm really interested in how this cluster swap works out, and where did you find a junkyard, with a 2010 c300 :O
