hey guys,
i'm not sure if this is still relevant... but i've been using my PCMCIA slot for music.. Bought two PCMCIA to SD convert that promise me it will load more than 2gb of music... wrongg, it only take 2gb.. So i finally got a PCMCIA to Compact Flash and tried a 32gb and a 16gb and wolaa it works! I believe this will take 64gb compact flash memory, but don't think i need that much space yet...

1) $9.99 PPA Int'l 1134 PCMCIA supporting type 2 only.. and i believe all the new Compact Flash is type 2 (The only physical difference between the two types is that Type I devices are 3.3 mm thick while Type II devices are 5 mm thick)
Amazon Amazon

2) $23 for 16gb Kingston from BHphotovideo
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...mate_266X.html

3) $11 and PCMCIA to USB so u can transfer music

Ok....so I see this slot there all the time and I wasn't even sure what it was.

So it's like a memory card slot on which I can download the music from my computer and play straight up? I am deff buying one of those cards if that's what it is!

What's all the things I need to purchase to make this happen and can I buy them locally from the Source or Future Shop or something? Once I find out what things I exactly need, I will get it today. Let me know.

Thanks

Thanks I would rather buy local cause I am impatient and don't want to wait for shipping. I am just noting down the three things so I can go into the shop and ask them about it. I am guessing that USB thing is used to transfer the music from the computer to the card and then you put the card into the adapter which together goes into the slot in the car?

Does anyone know if Macbook Pro's have that slot so the memory card fits directly in them without needing that USB thing?

Thanks

I bought a refurbished SanDisk PCMCIA reader, 6-in-1. I only used 2GB SD so far as I already had it home. Will try more GB later.

I'd prefer not to buy CF (use it if you have it already) but SD. I was told CF is being phased out; it is too big, less and less are used in new products.

Can a SD memory card directly fit into that slot in the car? Or is there some kind of adapter required for that too? I thought that slot in the car was fairly big.....

Well like I said, if your sd works with the pcmcia that holds more than 2gb then more power to u dslr cameras are still using them so no they would not phase out anytime soon and does the size really matter....? U are going to leave it in Ur car.....

I believe the new 2012 have a slot for just sd cards, but the rest are pcmcia slot

So we have no choice but to use that then.

I quickly searched bestbuy for compact flash cards and can't seem to find the pcmcia to compact flash converter there. Guess it would be easier to get it online on the links you posted.

I notice amazon has an MB PCMCIA reader that take CF, about $40(?) a few weeks ago.

Frys told me CF will go out. No it's not the CF size for a car is too big. Most new cameras, camcorders and maybe GPS are designed to use SC, not CF. Mine is 6-in-1 which takes basically most memory formats in the market now.

I am assuming you mean that one? Maybe I will just order that then. That's all I need right? And a SD card of course. Doesn't say supports C350 but I am sure it will be fine as C300 is there. Wonder how much this part is at the Mercedes dealership?

The one I saw was on Amazon. It has an MB three-pointed star on it. I remember it takes CF only.

But wouldn't the SD card one be better though? Since SD cards can directly go into laptop and you transfer your music and put it in that adapter and then your car. And you should be good to go.

Well I don't trust the pcmcia to sd anymore cuz I bought two online and none work, so I'm sticking with compact flash, works for me and compact flash is only for music for the car only... So even if it some place don't carry it anymore, it doesn't matter to me

That is the one I saw earlier. I forgot from eBay or Amazon. I remember benzworld.org had a thread specifically talking about which PCMCIA card worked which didn't work, lots of info. Actually I bought my PCMCIA reader right after I read that thread. I didn't even pay any attention to the slot in the car, although I know it is there...

I don't know if you got an answer to your question or not, but yes, my MB Pro does have a multi card slot reader.

I was just going to wait until I got home to check it. Haha

I know it has a slot for SD card, but I wasn't sure if the CF cards would fit in there too?

If you do use the SD slot for your car does the car read all the music and let you choose track from the console like a playing music from the CD player? or is it stupid like the Ipod Aux where its all unorganized and useless.

When you load the songs on the card, group them how you want, i.e. genre, etc. and they pop up that way on a play list. Very neat and orderly, completely opposite to the ipod...the card is the best way.

Nice I ordered a PCMCIA to CF, original Mercedes Benz from ebay for $12.

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Original-Merc...ht_2450wt_1185

Then I ordered the 16gig CF Memory Card from the link you posted above and I also ordered a reader from that website for $14.

Can't wait for it all to get in. Thanks.

Has anyone tried to stream music through a bluetooth pcmcia card wirelessly? If so, that would be a great... Since the pcmcia slot is integrated into the command system, it would be a work around for not having an aux or ipod connection. You could simply pair the iphone/smartphone/ipod, etc. with the device and stream music through the car's system. Please discuss your thoughts...

I doubt that.... Since PCMCIA is an old technology, even if it does have Bluetooth via PCMCIA card... It might be bulky and ugly looking
