Blacked out headlights DIY (Kinda)

okay, so I blacked out my headlights, lets say first of all I watched one 5 minute video on youtube as to where the screws are and this was the easiest thing ive ever done in my life. You don't even have to take the front bumper off but honestly its that much easier to.

took about an hour total time disassembling the bumper, taking headlights out, taking them apart, and putting everything back to together. NOT including painting time which took about another hour and I let it dry over night.

All you need is a cordless drill with a 10mm socket attachment and an 8mm attachment, and i forgot what size the star was for the main top headlight bulb.. that's it..

10 screws hold everything together.

Oh and the washer reservoir is out because the pump was leaking, pretty cool how the coolant heats it.

Here are the pics:

None at all, maybe with halogens you would, but everything is HIDS so I haven't noticed anything

Your high beams become useless

Great write-up. What'd you use to paint them?

I don't understand why people are blacking out highbeams. Doesn't seem any better than what ricers do.

lol I like this guy, at least he admitted being lazy. But no, I wasn't talking about you specifically nor trying to draw away from your diy.

Sorry not trying to thread jack, but would painting the highbeams a different color help? Perhaps a matte silverish color?

It'll still be useless since you want a highly reflective surface such as the chrome. Your output would be similar to carrying the halogen bulb itself and expecting to see a few yards ahead clearly.

If you can live with the chrome, then you can get the best of both worlds. Otherwise, completely black it out or leave it as is.

That's what most of the C-class mods remind me of. But beyond that, why buy high-intensity lights only to then darken them???

I don't think people darken the clear plastic cover (unless they vinyl wrap them or spray tint). They paint the chrome parts and since projectors have their own separate reflective housing, lighting isn't affected by the modification. I haven't done the mod myself, so I could be wrong

Well in that case I'm the one in the wrong. I hope I am actually because if not, again, I just don't get it. But if it doesn't affect the safety feature of the lights then more power to whoever is into cosmetic mods...it's their right.
