I'm thinking of buying used wheels and tires off ebay...
They're the 18" OEM AMGs with the Conti DWS on them. Minor curb rash, the rear tires are supposedly almost brand new and warranted with 90% tread and the fronts are 35-40% tread. They also come with the TPMS sensors.
I like these wheels a lot and normally they're $1500 or more. I think this is a really good deal, but I'm a bit wary about buying them.
He says they're balanced and ready to be installed. Is this true? Or do they need to be balanced specifically for my car? Should I get an alignment when installing new wheels or is that unnecessary?
He also wants to do the deal out side of ebay so again I'm kind of unsure, it is understandable though because the fees are high, plus I'm still protected under paypal, although he did suggest me paying by money order to avoid the paypal fees also which I am definitely not doing

Whether you go through ebay or not, he is still going to have to pay up paypal fees. So I don't know why it would make a difference doing it outside of ebay, unless he wants you to paypal him using the gift option which I wouldn't do since you won't be protected in that case.

balanced for your car? - no if a wheel is balanced in its rotation, its balanced for all cars
900 for those wheels and tires isnt too bad a deal. they definitely look a billion times better than the bland 17s that came w/them back then.
You'll be happy you have them after you get them on

Don't do the deal outside of ebay as that will limit your recourse if there is something wrong with the deal.
A few months ago, I found out that one of my rims had enough of a bend that it was causing a kind of vibration that can't be balanced out.
You might not be able to get the seller to warrant that they're not bent but you might be able to use that in negotiations. By the way, these wheels don't unbend very well. They tend to want to spring back when they get hot.
....and yes, I'd definately get them rebalanced with specific attention to whether they're bent or not.

The balance of the wheels can easily be knocked out during shipping, so factor in the fees needed to have them rebalanced upon delivery. Maybe its just me but I rather pay a bit more and get a set free of curb rash as they appear to be difficult/costly to repair if you want a perfect set later. They do show up in the classified every once in awhile so keep a close eye on them, I purchased my set (fresh dealer take offs) for $1300 shipped. Happy wheel hunting.

Ended up getting them, thought it was a fair deal with tires and tpms. Curb rash is no big deal for me, I have the Wurth spray paint, with a little 400 grit sanding, a couple coats and some clear coat, it looks good enough far away. I cant wait to finally have the 18s! I'm planning on plastidiping them black, but leaving the silver lip like hitokiris car:

someday I may want to remove the plasti dip. I do like the silver lip idea though as it is an OEM feature on the C63 coupe launch edition:

DO NOT DEAL OUTSIDE OF E-BAY..... DANGER DANGER!!!! I once got so burned doing this. You have no protections, and it should be a red flag when they say this!

Sounds like they were well bought, certainly if the 2 tires were as new as described, I think you got a nice deal...Now, looking at the beautiful shiny rims and reading that you are going to spray that garbage rattle can flat black crap all over them is just a shame...to each his own I guess....might as well just spray your stockers crappy blackdip and save the money, same dirty looking boring results...

That's exactly what my dad sad when I mentioned my plan to him, but the stuff is totally removable, so why not? Basically I really wanted the 18s but for a little while I want to try out the black wheels look, so I figured plasti dipping the amg 18s is the best of both worlds, I figure once I graduate college I'll remove the plastidip.[/QUOTE]
Maybe it is my Dad side (age) showing through then - I have one who just graduated college and one who is on his way August 23rd....Do what makes you happy, I get it now...
