brake light doesn't operate when engine off

Is this normal? On all other cars I have ever owned, the brake lights will come on when the brakes are depressed regardless of the engine being on or off. On the C, the engine had to be on for the brake light to be activated by the brake pedal.

I noticed this just yesterday, as I got the "check right tail and brake lamp" warning message. I have confirmed that one of the 2 right rear lower bulbs have gone out. BTW, I did a search and didn't find any instructions on how to change that. Any tips on which link/thread to look at would be appreciated.

As for the brake light I think your right! mine does it too, but its normal my audi did that. as far as your light outs before u waste $ on bulbs check the harness their known to melt on our cars. If your under warranty they will replace for free maybe even if your out of it take it there anyway n complain its a safety issue.

Does anyone know how to get the car, a C350 Sport 2008 out of "P"??? My shifter is stuck. I read the manual and took the leather off the shifter and then hit the yellow release to allow the gears to be put into place but the car will not start. Is there a DIY fix for this problem?
Please advise,
Thanks

Battery is also a culprit. Not enough voltage can cause lots of things not to work properly and which is probably why it wont start

EIS???

Thanks guys, and yes
, the first thing I checked was the battery , outs
ide air temp dropped about 20 degrees yesterday. Battery is fairly new, but it was the logical first check. This is the first automatic I've driven since 1996 and probably the last.
Please keep the suggestions coming.
Best regards,
Sad C350 guy:[

The brake lights illuminate with the ignition in the on position. Whether the engine is running (on) or not is irrelevant.
