w204 4matic
engine swaps... lets talk

up here in Canada, the W204 came as a C250 4matic with the smaller v6. I initially bought it thinking i'd be ok with basically zero *****. I'm wrong. I have about one year left on my warranty and am starting to think about swaps. Ideally a 350 swap. Or some kind of power adder. The dream any AMG issued motor. I'm assuming: ECM, Engine, possibly mounts... but what else would be involved?

C63 is kinda useless against Canada's brutal winter. Might need to get a winter beater tho.

Damn really? Calgary's winter is the only reason kept me from buying one... My friend had one and he can't even pull out of the parking lot XD

"C250 is a i4 Turbo, where did you get that it was a v6?"

Probably from the V and the 6 on the engine cover?

Depends on the region.
For the 2012 model year Canadian lineup, the C 250 RWD sedan with its turbo inline-4 (replacing the 2010-11 C 250 Canada-only model with a 2.5L V6 which was badged as the C 230 from 2008–09) was sold alongside the C 250 4MATIC (another Canada-only model with a 2.5L V6 which was badged as the C 230 4MATIC from 2008–09) since 4MATIC was not compatible with the turbo inline-4 engine.[94] For the 2013 model year, the sedan lineup was simplified considerably with the C250 turbo inline-4 RWD, C300 4MATIC, C 350 RWD, C 350 4MATIC, and C63 AMG

The M272 engine came in the E25 2.5L (2496 cc) version and was sold as the C230 and later as the C250 with 201 HP and 181 lb-feet of torque. Thought that the 4-Matic for the US and Canada was the 3.0L engine, however the distributor/importer for each country can configure their orders as they see their market demands.

As for swapping the engine, just selling your W204 and purchasing another used C350 is far more economical and reliable than tearing out an engine with associated accessories and hardware. Since this is a 4Matic, the maximum HP and torque the transmission and drive can reliably receive is less than 250 HP and 250 torques, reason why the current 2013 4Matic has its 3.5L engine detuned to 80% of its standard output.

Interesting info there on the 3.5 about being detuned. How does our 4 matic differ from that in say the ML? As I understand there are amg versions with 4 matic. I'm not trying to argue with you, simply wondering the differences. I would think either the transfer case or the shafts would be the weakest points. Overall I agree that the easiest thing would be to buy a larger motor car for sure; as opposed to wasting $$$$ and time. I am definitely eyeing the rumoured 2014 E63 AMG...4 matic... that car will be as close to my perfect car as I'm likely to see. It could only get better with the TT motor.

unfortunately the w204 C63 is not an option for me as I drive regularly to collingwood through the winter (3+ times a week), and driving hwy26 in the snow with a good cross wind can by interesting even in a 4wd truck

@tdot_ollie: As there are several capacities of 7G transmissions (with limits of 400 NM and 700 NM respectively, plus the AMG 7G), there is also a 4Matic unit for the first two. You can just check the MB USA website on the current 3.5L 4Matic and see the specs.

Attached are the current 4Matic specs for the USA. I assume this is just a stop-gap measure and that hopefully MB will have a well-sorted 4WD C-Class offering with the intro of the W205. Until then the disappointing 4Matic, which BMW, Audi, VW and Ford all put to shame.

Or you could buy my C350 that has a 6spd manual and some mods . Was there a C350 with a v6? Not in the U.S I expect.

"250 HP and 250 torques, reason why the current 2013 4Matic has its 3.5L engine detuned to 80% of its standard output".

Sorry, but that's not true. If you read the specs carefully its not a detuned 3.5l. MBUSA gets the "old" pre-2012 248hp engine. In Canada we get a C300 4matic, with the old 3.5l and a C350 4matic with the new 302hp 3.5l motor.

I guess MB just wants to use up the "old" 3.5l motors, since it no longer makes the 3.0l.

Heck, the 7g transmission is in the 550 S class 4matic so it can obviously handle a lot more power than the C puts out.
