I have 2008 with the 040 Black Paint, there's several things that I want to re paint myself such as front hood,bumper, side fenders, due to rock chips and rear side skirt fender and rear bumper. I was wondering what the process would be and if its just a sanding and one stage paint process? Amateur here so any advice would be helpful , shops are charging too much for the labor.

I would advise not to and I hope everyone on this forum does as well seeing as how your an amateur. This is not like painting a grill.

From what I know, it requires sanding, primer and maybe more sanding, coats of paint, coats of clear coat, and then wet sanding followed by polishing and wax.

You would also have to get the correct coats of paint. Just saying though in MY opinion, this amount of work and type of work, you should leave to the professional.

MAYBE someone will chime in with a better answer that you're looking for.

 

It's a base coat, clear coat process with base colour being water based. PPG, Glasurit & Spies Hecker can provide.

I personally like the Glasurit products & their Benz matching is excellent. You can patch repair with an airbrush if necessary.

Preparation is simple sanding & ensuring no grease or silicone contamination of the part.

 

Thank you both for responding. Glyn, so the basic preperation is to sand affected chipped parts , scratches and then just airbrush it with a gun with the right glasurite paint product?
