Angry Can someone please check there car for a part for me?

So last night, I get to my car late, after a very long trip. Exhausted, go to start the car, and I get a low coolant level warning on my integrated displays.

Well, my coolant level was fine. I took the cap off, removed the little filter, went and got my flashlight to check. Frustrated, I put the cap back on and drove off. Leaving my little fill filter sitting somewhere in the engine compartment. Its gone now.

I called the local mercedes dealer and they said that there is no filling filter on the 2011 C300 expansion tank. So either I am crazy or an idiot. Probably both.

Haha,

Would one of you with a C300 mind opening your expansion tank reservoir and see if there is a little metal screen inside of it. And if so, let me know that it is there, and give me the part number. Thanks in advance.

Be careful when you pull the cap off, its pressurized, if your engine is hot, it could burn you.

J

Just went outside to look and no filter in my case C350 2010. I also look in the electronic parts catalog and I cannot see any filter either. But unfortunately it can be part of the complete expansion tank.

My 2011 C300 Sport does not have the filter either.
Just curious, what does this filter actually do if we do have it? I don't think there is anything in the coolant to be filtered out.

It was just a little wire screen filter, that is only used when filling the reservoir if there is any contamination in the fluid. Not a big deal at all. In speaking with another dealer, they said that during assembly they may put them in there if the cap is off on the assembly line, since dust and what not are all over the place. The replacement parts aparently don't come with it.

The little strainer might still be at the bottom of the engine bay, caught by the plastic protector ? You just need to take it off & look.

In re: Useless info Department, you find these filters in the brake master cylinder reservoir but not in the coolant. My C300 doesn't have one either.

I agree with looking on the bellypan since that's where dropped tools and miscellaneous small parts end up.
