Need to change Coolant Thermostat
Hey guys, just wondering if anyone can help steer me to some directions on how to replace a 2008 C300 coolant thermostat. No more heat is coming out of the vents now. =(

coolant thermostat
I got a check engine light on Monday and went to local NAPA auto parts store and had them read the engine code and brought back that the thermostat is failing. bought the thermostat online for $93 dollars and will head to a local Merces dealer to get the coolant and will be replacing it this weekend.

Thermostat replacement
Hey...sorry to bring this back, but do you HAVE to take out the air filter in order to get the thermostat out? It seems all that needs to be taken out is the pulley and the belt in order to get to the bottom screw of the thermostat. And does the check engine light go off on its own after replacement?

I just did it on my C350 2010 and I had to remove the air pump (very easy job) but not the air filter. In my case the light went off by itself after replacement...

Awesome!! One last question, I also got the p0128 error after my check engine light came on, so I know it's the thermostat, my question is how long can I drive the car without damaging anything else? Everything runs fine, including the temperate gauge and the cars heater...NO noticeable problem except the check engine light that's on.

The only thing I notice with my thermostat at fault was the temp was around 80 C instead of 95 C that mean the heating system was very efficient especially when it was minus 20 out there….But I drove my car for over a month with this problem before I receive the part and start the job…Keep an eye on the temp gauge !

80 is exactly the temp I had before the fault message. It should be closer to 95…. I did not bother draining the system I only loss less than a gallon of coolant. Yes the air pump should be removed, it is a very simple job but you need torx sockets set.

There is no need to drain the coolant from the engine, just siphon it out of the header tank. . I changed the thermostat without refilling with more than a cup. If I had organised it better no coolant would have been lost.I have a diesel but it should not be ant different in a gasser.

I agree with Carsy. Siphon out and reuse. Unless your coolant is old and dirty then I'd drain, flush and refill with new coolant.
Drain plug is on the bottom of the radiator to the side on the passenger side. A pain to get at if you don't have a proper jack.

FCPEuro video is all you need. You do NOT have to remove the extra stuff for "space" honestly space was no issue, that would just take more work.
I replaced coolant because yolo. Direct from dealer.

Myself also. I had to remove my oil cooler and had to drain some of the coolant anyway so all new stuff went in. MB says the coolant will last 15 years like carsy mentioned but I changed it anyway just because, even though it looked OK. I figured 8 years was long enough.

Just went through this. Relatively simple job but replaced the tensioner and pulleys while you are in there as well as the belt(which should go without saying).
